Microsoft is facing criticism from many US Game Pass subscribers due to a price increase. The cost of Game Pass Ultimate is now $29.99 per month, or $360 annually. This change follows a previous announcement from the company, and now Microsoft has revealed that another popular Game Pass feature will be removed.
Following a price change for games, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members discovered they were no longer receiving a 10% discount on Call of Duty Points. This also affected Blackcell, a premium version of the battle pass that costs $29.99 and can only be bought with real money.
Microsoft has confirmed that Game Pass subscribers will no longer receive a direct discount on games and add-ons. Instead of a price reduction, Ultimate members will now earn 10% in points with eligible purchases, while Premium members will earn 5%. This change applies to all games and DLC within the Game Pass library.
Microsoft Is Hitting Gamers Where It Hurts
Ugh, as a gamer, this is just the latest in a long string of bad news. It feels like everything is getting more expensive! Those tariffs are really hitting us hard, and game companies are passing the cost onto us. Consoles are pricier, subscriptions are going up, and now games are almost $100, even though more and more people are buying digital copies. It’s getting tough out here!
Game Pass used to be the best value for gamers, but the recent 50% price increase to $29.99 a month makes it much less affordable. With Microsoft also reducing the benefits included with the subscription, many gamers are starting to question whether it’s still worth the cost.
Microsoft has pledged to release more games on Xbox the day they come out, hoping to satisfy players. However, these choices are proving hard for fans to accept, especially since the company has already broken promises. As a result, Microsoft is quickly losing the trust of gamers.
Many gamers are already canceling their Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, and the recent price increase is expected to cause even more to do so. If you’re considering canceling before the price goes up, you can do so as a way to express your dissatisfaction.
