Microsoft Has More Games Slated For PS5 This Year Than Sony (So Far)

In a distinctive advantage for this year, Microsoft‘s multi-platform launch approach means they have more exclusive Xbox first-party games set to be released compared to the number of Sony games destined for PlayStation in 2025.

During the State of Play livestream held on Wednesday in February 2025, several game announcements were made. However, the focus of the presentation was primarily on third-party games such as Monster Hunter Wilds and Borderlands 4, rather than first-party PlayStation titles. The only notable Sony-published PS5 games displayed were a re-release of Days Gone, Lost Soul Aside, and Housemarque’s Saros, which is expected to launch in 2026.

As Eurogamer notes, here are the PS5 games Sony has confirmed for 2025: Days Gone Remastered, Lost Soul Aside, MLB: The Show 25 (which will also be available on Xbox and Nintendo Switch), Ghost of Yōtei, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. However, we don’t have release dates yet for Marvel’s Wolverine, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, or Marathon from Bungie.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that this year, Microsoft has lined up some fantastic titles for the PS5! We’ve got Forza Horizon 5, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a new Doom: The Dark Ages, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, a refreshed take on Age of Mythology called Age of Mythology: Retold, The Outer Worlds 2, and Ninja Gaiden 4 on the list. Can’t wait to dive in!

Microsoft currently offers seven PS5 games, excluding the upcoming Call of Duty game, while Sony has five confirmed titles set for 2025. This could make it challenging for loyal console users to choose between the two brands, but it seems we’ll all need to adapt as more Xbox games might move over to PlayStation.

Absolutely, the competition’s equilibrium in this year’s release lineup might change once Sony reveals additional launch dates for their games. However, this unexpected turn of events may hold little significance for Sony, given their boast about robust hardware sales figures from the last quarter. They shipped 9.5 million PS5 units and have sold a total of 75 million since the platform’s inception.
