Michael B. Jordan Says Marvel Will Get Its Success Back, but He Tells the Studio: ‘I Want to See a Blade Movie’

As a die-hard Marvel fan myself, I’ve got to say that despite the recent rocky road the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been treading – with films like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” underperforming last year, and even “Captain America: Brave New World” receiving mixed reviews – I’m still optimistic about Marvel’s future. The MCU reached new heights just a year ago with the blockbuster success of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” so I believe they’ve got more superheroic feats up their sleeves!

As a former formidable adversary in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having portrayed Erik Killmonger in “Black Panther” and its follow-up, I can confidently say that Marvel is on a roll. They’ll surely regain their footing and continue to captivate audiences with their compelling storytelling.

One eagerly anticipated comic book project that actor Jordan hopes Marvel will finally launch is the long-delayed “Blade” film. Initially announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali cast as the title character, the vampire hunter, “Blade” has undergone multiple scriptwriters and directors. Last fall, Marvel removed the movie from its release schedule.

Jordan mentioned that starting any franchise isn’t easy. He expressed his hope for its success and shared his desire to witness another ‘Blade’ movie. For him, the ‘Blade’ franchise was exceptional.

Bassam Tariq became the initial director for Marvel’s “Blade” film production, but he parted ways with the project in September 2022, about two months prior to the planned start of filming. Over the years, various screenwriters have been announced, including Stacy Osei-Kuffour from “Watchmen” and Michael Starrbury. More recently, director Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) left the project in June 2024.

Last summer, during his “Deadpool & Wolverine” media tour, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige emphasized to BlackTree TV that taking time with the “Blade” film is an important focus for the studio.

In our efforts to produce the ‘Blade’ film over the past two years, what matters most to us isn’t hurrying through the process but rather ensuring that we create the ideal version of it.

Following Marvel’s decision to delay the film’s premiere, Feige assured fans of comic book movies that the renowned vampire slayer, Blade, would indeed make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He made this promise.

At the D23 Brazil 2024 event, Feige made clear that Blade is a priority for us. We’re really fond of the character and Mahershala’s portrayal of him. Additionally, we always keep our audience informed when a project’s direction changes or schedule shifts. At this point, you can trust that the character will be part of the MCU. I can assure you that Blade will find his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
