Mia Goth Hypes Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ as “One of the Greatest Experiences of My Life”

Mia Goth, known for her role in Frankenstein, has discussed her work on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey. The movie, which features stars like Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Charlize Theron, is set to be released in July. Goth plays Melantho, a servant to Odysseus and his wife Penelope, in the epic adventure.

At the Palm Springs International Film Awards last weekend, the 32-year-old actress spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her experience working on set. She seemed incredibly enthusiastic and would eagerly accept another role from the director if given the chance.

That experience was truly one of the highlights of my life. I’ve admired his work for a long time, so getting to see him direct and be a part of that process was incredible. I learned so much, especially about how much faith he has in the actors he works with – it was really insightful.

‘The Odyssey’s Benny Safdie Made a Gross Mistake on Location in Morocco

With the highly anticipated release of The Odyssey getting closer, stories from the actors are starting to surface. One recent tale comes from Benny Safdie, who plays Agamemnon, and involves a significant mistake he made while having time off in Morocco.

As Josh Safdie shared in an interview about Project Big Screen, he had an experience in Morocco where he unknowingly drank the local water. He remembered asking his brother, Ben Safdie, about it, and realizing immediately that was a mistake. He recalled a moment of panic, followed by a visit to the doctor where they discovered he had some kind of stomach issue. He said, ‘They put a stethoscope on my stomach and I just knew something wasn’t right!’

James Remar, who’s appearing in the new film but whose role hasn’t been revealed yet, recently shared how meticulously organized director Christopher Nolan runs his movie sets. This level of control and discipline has been a hallmark of Nolan’s work throughout his career, dating back to films like Batman Begins, The Prestige, and Oppenheimer.

The atmosphere on set was incredibly warm and collaborative, like a close-knit family. There was a deep sense of mutual respect among everyone involved – a truly professional and focused group. There was no time for messing around; everyone was completely dedicated to realizing Christopher Nolan’s detailed vision. It was a serious, highly concentrated environment where everyone brought their best work.

A big question surrounding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is how he’ll bring the poem’s magical and mythical parts to life on screen. The story follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and his ten-year struggle to return home after the Trojan War, where he faces incredible challenges like encounters with a one-eyed giant called Polyphemus, the powerful sorceress Circe, dangerous sirens, the nymph Calypso, and a race of giant cannibals called Laestrygonians.

The creator explained his unique approach in an interview with Empire Magazine. He realized he needed to portray mythological elements as if they were genuinely part of the real world. His key idea was that things we now understand through science – like lightning, thunder, and earthquakes – were once seen as the work of gods. People didn’t just believe in gods; they directly saw divine actions happening around them. He hinted that evidence of the supernatural is prevalent in the world he’s created and deeply impacts the lives of its inhabitants.
