He’s a natural at action. This incredible new footage proves he’s better than most. With everything from brutal hand-to-hand combat to intense gunfights and swordplay, and a knack for delivering menacing threats, this new star is poised to dominate the action genre in 2026.
Actor and martial artist , known for his roles in film and television, returns in the trailer for next week’s Mexicali. After directing the critically overlooked action thriller Life After Fighting in 2024, he’s now showcasing his fighting skills in a new way. Mexicali throws his character – a former soldier trying to live a quiet life as a farmer – into a violent conflict with a dangerous Cartel. It’s a no-holds-barred story where survival means taking action before they do.
There’s this great line from the movie – Joe, played by Foster, says it’s better to be a fighter living a peaceful life than a peaceful person stuck in a fight, and it really stuck with me. And Joe himself? He’s not your typical action hero. He’s got this incredible mix of skills – think Rambo’s survival instincts combined with some seriously impressive martial arts – but what’s really surprising is he’s got this positive outlook and a genuinely good heart. He’s a warrior, absolutely, but one you can actually root for.
The action thriller Mexicali, directed by stunt expert Luke LaFontaine (known for his work on Iron Man and Oldboy) and written by Jesse V. Johnson (Avengement, Debt Collectors), stars actors including Jane Seymour (Lost, Malcolm in the Middle), Plutarco Haza (El Señor de los Cielos), and Kris Van Damme (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning), the son of Jean-Claude Van Damme. Samuel Goldwyn Films will release Mexicali in theaters and on digital platforms on March 13. You can find the trailer and a summary of the film below.
Joe, a former boxer, now assists his partner Estrella with her farm in Mexico. When he secretly takes on fights to help his workers, he and Marco are attacked by Chavez’s gang while traveling, forcing Joe to fight back and protect them.

Bren Foster gained significant attention in 2024 for Life After Fighting, a film he both directed and starred in. The movie, which features a martial arts instructor investigating the disappearance of his students and battling international child traffickers – similar to the film Taken – showcased Foster’s talent and established him as a rising star in the action genre. Life After Fighting appears to be just the first step in his journey to becoming a leading action hero.
In addition to his role in Mexicali, actor Foster is aiming to make a big impact in 2026. He’s starring with Russell Crowe in the new MMA film Beast, where he’ll be playing a villain – a departure from his usual heroic roles. Beast is scheduled to be released on April 10th. Following that, Foster will return to playing the hero in another action-packed MMA movie, Relentless. In this film, he plays a former soldier and fighter who battles in the Octagon while facing a cancer diagnosis, all to secure his family’s future.
