As a cinema enthusiast, I’m sharing a piece of news that struck close to my heart: Meryl Streep, the esteemed actress, had an extraordinary experience during the recent Los Angeles wildfires. In an interview with New York Magazine, her nephew Abe shared an intriguing detail – to escape the flames, Meryl had to carve a giant hole, big enough for a vehicle, in her very own fence!
This news is another stark reminder of the devastating impact these wildfires have had on our beloved celebrities, including Meryl, who was among the many forced to abandon their homes amidst the chaos.
On January 8th, my aunt Meryl Streep was instructed to evacuate, but upon attempting to leave, found a massive tree had fallen across her driveway, trapping her in. Undeterred, she managed to borrow wire cutters from a neighbor and carved out a space large enough for a car in the shared fence separating them. She then drove through her neighbors’ yard to get away.”
Or more simply:
“My aunt Meryl Streep was told to evacuate on January 8th, but a fallen tree blocked her driveway. She borrowed wire cutters from a neighbor and made a car-sized hole in the shared fence to escape through her neighbors’ yard.
In his article, Abe interviewed various actors, such as Haley Joel Osment, an Academy Award nominee from “The Sixth Sense.” Unfortunately, both Osment’s home and that of his parents were destroyed in the Altadena fire. According to Abe’s account, Osment suffered a significant loss, including 500 records and a piano given to him on his 18th birthday by his parents. Abe mentioned that Osment shared with him how his father was finding it hard to cope with the loss of their home, as he had spent over a decade meticulously sanding and refinishing the wooden floors and carefully varnishing metal surfaces.
Osment shared with Abe that he intends to construct a new residence in the same community and is seeking some insight regarding the wildfires that spread rapidly. He inquired, “To avoid assigning blame, I’m merely curious; once everything has been thoroughly investigated, did a choice arise to simply allow the entire neighborhood to burn?
Although Abe didn’t disclose if Meryl Streep’s residence survived the wildfires, numerous celebrities, including Mandy Moore, Jeff Bridges, Miles Teller, Paris Hilton, and Billy Crystal, are among the many Hollywood figures who lost their homes. The article mentioned that Martin Short’s home was spared from the fires, but one of his sons’ houses nearby was destroyed. In the piece, Abe quoted Short as saying, “I will undoubtedly remain in my home,” with determination.
