Patrick Dempsey, famous for his role as “McDreamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, is taking on a much darker character in a new Fox thriller series coming out early next year. He’s trading in romance for action, playing a troubled antihero – a big shift for the actor, who’s primarily known for his roles in romantic comedies and the long-running medical drama.
The new series stars Dempsey as Angelo, a highly skilled assassin. When Angelo begins to develop early-onset Alzheimer’s, he starts to question his past and rediscover his humanity as his memory declines. To make matters worse, he suspects his wife’s death wasn’t accidental, sending him on a mission for revenge – and time is running out.
I’m really excited about this new show, Memory of a Killer! It’s coming from Warner Bros. Television and Fox, and the creators, Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, took inspiration from a fantastic Belgian movie called De Zaak Alzheimer (also known as La Memoire Du Tueur). The cast is amazing – you’ve got familiar faces like , Richard Harmon, Odeya Rush, Daniel David Stewart, Peter Gadiot, and alongside Patrick Dempsey. I think it’s going to be a huge hit!
‘Memory of a Killer’ Reimagines Liam Neeson’s 2022 Action Thriller for the Small Screen
FOX is creating a TV series called Memory of a Killer, based on the 2022 action movie Memory starring Liam Neeson. Network president Michael Thorn compares the show to a blend of 24 and House, suggesting it will appeal to fans of Neeson’s action roles. The original film, about an assassin losing his memory, received mixed reviews – critics gave it a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences scored it higher at 80%. Hopefully, the series, starring Dempsey in the lead role, will be more successful. Memory of a Killer premieres on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 9 PM Eastern/8 PM Central time. More details about the plot are available below.
For anyone, memory loss is a terrible shock, but for Angelo Ledda, it’s especially frightening. He already has a dangerous job as a hitman, but he also leads a double life as a quiet salesman and father in a small town. For years, Angelo has carefully kept these two worlds separate. Now, Alzheimer’s threatens to destroy that balance. He knows firsthand how devastating the disease can be, as his brother is already suffering from it, and he realizes he can’t escape its effects.
Angelo is incredibly skilled and capable, truly one of the best. But he’s facing the biggest challenge of his life, and time is running out. Things become even more complicated when he begins to suspect his wife’s death wasn’t accidental. When someone targets his pregnant daughter, it’s clear his secret life has been exposed. Angelo must uncover who is threatening his family by revisiting his past assignments – a long and difficult task. He’s forced to hunt down a dangerous enemy while still carrying out his work, hiding his failing memory, and trying to be there for his daughter. “Memory of a Killer” is a story about a man regaining his humanity as he loses his memory. Angelo knows he has to stop a cycle of violence and protect his family, before he forgets everything that’s happened.
