Mel Gibson recently shared some news about the long-awaited follow-up to his 2004 hit, “The Passion of the Christ.

During a conversation with Joe Rogan on his podcast, it was mentioned that the movie, which has been undergoing development since at least 2016, might start filming as early as 2026.

He mentioned that he’s looking forward to some point next year. He explained that this is a significant undertaking because it involves an acid journey, and he went on to say that he’s never encountered a script quite like the one written by Gibson and Wallace.

My brother, Randall, and I gathered our thoughts on this matter. With three minds working together, there were some sound ideas, but also some bizarre aspects,” he explained. “I believe that to truly narrate the story accurately, we must begin at the fall of the angels. This takes us to a different world, another dimension. To fully understand, we need to delve into the depths of hell.

Gibson also unveiled the film’s official title: “The Resurrection of the Christ.”

Previously, it became known that Gibson was exploring potential filming sites across Europe. It’s said he first checked out Malta, followed by a trip to several historic towns within the southern Italian region of Puglia.

In an interview with the National Catholic Register in 2022, Gibson explained that “Resurrection” wasn’t a straightforward story. Instead, he emphasized the importance of interweaving the main event with other events in the future, past, and even other dimensions, which could make it seem somewhat science fiction-like.

Mel Gibson’s movie ‘The Passion of the Christ’, portraying Jesus’ last days leading up to his crucifixion, amassed a staggering worldwide box office of approximately $612 million, making it the highest-grossing independent film ever. However, the film faced criticism for perceived anti-Semitic content, suggesting Jewish leaders were responsible for Jesus’ execution. Yet, this controversy seemed to generate more interest as churches reserved entire theaters for their congregations to watch.
