MCU’s Clark Gregg & Ever Anderson Discuss Their Relationship on Period Drama The Artist

Clark Gregg and Ever Anderson, both experienced performers, are teaming up for a new murder mystery series on The Network. Gregg is famous for playing Agent Phil Coulson in films like The Avengers and Captain Marvel, while Anderson is known for her role as a young artist. In The Artist, they play a married couple.

I’m so excited about this new show! Gregg Henry is playing Henry Kendall Thaw, and Drew Anderson is his wife, Evelyn Nesbit. Apparently, their relationship is pretty intense – the show is called The Artist, and Drew was talking about filming her very first scene with Gregg. She said they literally met about ten minutes before they started! Nobody really knew what to expect from each other’s portrayal of the characters. Then, suddenly, they were smashing glass and breaking the bed! She said that’s when it really hit her – they were really going for it and fully immersed in the roles. It sounds amazing!

Anderson highlighted how different Gregg’s character was from the actor himself, praising his ability to fully embody the role. She felt incredibly comfortable and safe working with him, especially during a challenging scene, noting that he created a secure environment on set. Anderson added that she’d never done anything like that scene before and found the whole experience to be very positive.

“The Artist” is The Network’s first original series, and Gregg described the show’s fast-paced production. He explained that, as Ever put it, the series aims to replicate the feel of an independent film streamer, creating six episodes quickly. Gregg added that his team was responsible for a significant portion of the work.

He described the intense first scene he filmed with Anderson’s character. He explained that they immediately jumped into a very charged scene where they had to quickly establish how their characters interacted, which was frightening. He added that it was even more unusual because the actress playing his wife was much younger than him, and the scene was both sexually suggestive and destined to be dramatic.

Gregg complimented his co-star on her professionalism during some intense scenes. He was relieved by her poise and skill, saying it immediately put him at ease and gave him confidence. He noted a crucial moment where she needed to assert herself physically, which was important because a lack of pushback can hinder the necessary tension and chemistry. He encouraged her to do what she needed, and she responded by forcefully throwing him across the room. While momentarily fearing for his safety, he realized it would result in a great scene.

Anderson & Gregg on their Shared MCU Experiences

The two actors, both with previous roles in Marvel films, were surprised to discover they had both been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They hadn’t realized their shared experience until after working together, and hadn’t discussed it on set, according to Anderson.

Anderson explained that they only found out through an interviewer. Surprisingly, it wasn’t their shared love of Marvel movies that brought them together, but rather their mutual appreciation for music. “We bonded over P.J. Harvey – she’s our favorite artist,” Anderson said.

The new series, The Artist, will debut on The Network on November 27th. Starring Gregg and Anderson, the show also features a talented cast including Danny Huston, Janet McTeer, Hank Azaria, Patti LuPone, Ana Mulvoy Ten, and Mandy Patinkin.
