McDonald’s releases Dragon Quest menu items and collectable Slime nesting dolls

Starting in 2026, McDonald’s Japan will be celebrating the popular Dragon Quest video game series with a special collaboration! They’re offering limited-edition burgers, drinks, and merchandise created in partnership with Square Enix.

The project kicked off in late 2025 and will continue into early 2026. It’s being rolled out in stages, with the first phase, called Volume 1, focusing on the franchise’s famous mascot, the Slime.

Slime in Slime is a new collection of collectible figures that are designed like Russian nesting dolls – smaller Slime characters fit inside bigger ones. The set includes five figures: classic blue Slimes, plus special versions based on McDonald’s characters like Grimace, Birdie, and the Hamburglar. A miniature Metal Slime is also included!

These collectible toys aren’t included with Happy Meals and must be bought on their own. A complete set costs around $20. This is similar to how McDonald’s released its Evangelion collection in 2024 – the higher-quality figures were sold separately from the kids’ meals.

For a limited time, McDonald’s Japan is partnering with the Dragon Quest series! Customers can collect special, exclusive slime collectibles as part of the promotion.

The limited-edition nesting dolls are hard to get! McDonald’s is holding a lottery because so many people want them. If you want a chance to buy a set, you need to enter through the McDonald’s Japan app. It costs 50 My McDonald’s Reward points to enter, and you get an extra entry if you order on the app.

McDonald’s goes all-in with Dragon Quest burgers and drinks

The new food promotion began on January 7, 2026, featuring three unique sandwiches. Each burger will be wrapped in special packaging inspired by the art of Dragon Quest.

The Thick-Sliced Beef and Potato Consommé Pepper Mayo sandwich starts with a beef patty and a thick hash brown. It’s topped with smoked bacon and seasoned with a flavorful blend of smoked soy sauce, garlic, black pepper, consommé, and mayonnaise.

Another choice is the Hot Chili Tartar Chicken. Instead of beef, it features a crispy chicken cutlet, topped with cheddar cheese, a spicy garlic tomato sauce, and creamy tartar sauce.

The last burger on the menu is the Cheese Double Teriyaki. It features two pork patties with a sweet teriyaki glaze, topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and a creamy, sweet mayonnaise.

To complete the experience, McDonald’s is offering a new McFizz drink inspired by Slime. According to McDonald’s, the drink tastes like yogurt and features Slime-themed branding, tying in with their current promotion.

McDonald’s restaurants in Asia have been increasingly partnering with video games for special promotions. This strategy started in Japan, building on the success of similar events in other areas. For example, in 2025, they teamed up with Street Fighter to offer meals inspired by the popular fighting game.

China recently celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival and also showcased the popular new game, Black Myth Wukong.
