McDonald’s releases breakfast poutine after years of customer demand

McDonald’s Canada is now offering a breakfast poutine – a dish many customers have been asking for! However, it’s only available at select locations, so not everyone will be able to taste it.

Starting February 17th, the popular fast-food chain introduced a limited-time Breakfast Poutine at select restaurants in Quebec and Atlantic Canada. This new item takes Canada’s beloved poutine and serves it as a breakfast option.

As a huge poutine fan, I was really intrigued to hear about McDonald’s new take on it! Normally, poutine is all about fries, cheese curds, and gravy – it’s a Canadian classic! But this version is different. They’re still using the cheese curds, which is great, but instead of gravy, they’ve gone with a creamy hollandaise-style sauce and built the whole thing around breakfast foods. It’s definitely a twist on a favorite!

The Breakfast Poutine is a delicious dish with crispy potatoes, cheese curds, and fluffy scrambled eggs. It’s mixed with savory tomatoes, green chilies, onions, and sausage, then drizzled with a rich, creamy breakfast sauce.

McDonald’s new breakfast poutine is super rare

Unlike many popular McDonald’s items, the Breakfast Poutine comes with strict limitations.

This item is only available during breakfast, specifically from 4 AM to 11 AM. Even restaurants that serve breakfast all day won’t have it after 11 AM. Also, you can only find it at participating restaurants in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, making it quite rare across Canada.

McDonald’s Canada developed this new item because customers had been asking for a breakfast version of a popular menu favorite for a while.

Customers have been requesting a breakfast poutine for a while now, and we’re thrilled to finally offer this new take on a Canadian favorite,” said Melissa Hains, Field Marketing Director at McDonald’s Canada. “This Breakfast Poutine shows how we like to innovate – by taking a well-loved comfort food and making it perfect for breakfast, while still keeping the classic McDonald’s breakfast flavors people enjoy.”

It’s available for $7.99 and also comes in a large size.

While breakfast poutine is a common sight in Canadian diners and pubs, McDonald’s seems to be the first fast-food restaurant to offer it.

This new offering is part of a wider trend of restaurants experimenting with different takes on poutine. Just recently, KFC released its own version in the U.S., created in partnership with chef Matty Matheson.

Joey Chestnut won another eating contest in 2025 by eating an incredible 26.5 pounds of poutine.

Across the rest of Canada, people have been excited about McDonald’s partnership with Drake, featuring a poutine, burger, and a special Sprite drink called “Nite Sprite” in limited-edition OVO packaging.

It’s currently unknown if the breakfast version will be available across the country, but for now, only Canadians in select areas can try McDonald’s new take on a classic menu item.
