McDonald’s launches Black Myth Wukong collab with special merch & black burger buns

McDonald’s is marking China’s Mid-Autumn Festival with a unique partnership, celebrating the popular video game Black Myth Wukong.

I was totally blown away by Black Myth Wukong! Game Science, a Chinese studio, really knocked it out of the park when they released it back in August 2024. They took the classic story of Sun Wukong and made it an amazing game that players everywhere are loving.

Since winning the Game Awards’ Best Action-Adventure title, Wukong has remained incredibly popular with players. The team behind it is now developing a new game inspired by Chinese mythology called Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

To celebrate China’s Mid-Autumn Festival, McDonald’s China is partnering with the popular game, Wukong, to honor its success.

Black Myth: Wukong comes to McDonald’s China with special meals & merch

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a Chinese holiday celebrating the harvest season when the moon is full and bright. People traditionally spend this time with loved ones, admiring the moon, enjoying mooncakes, and decorating with lanterns.

I’m so excited! McDonald’s is celebrating both the new game, Black Myth: Wukong, and the Mid-Autumn Festival with some really cool limited-time menu items and special merchandise. It’s a perfect combo of things I love!

Around mid-September, McDonald’s China started sharing advertisements on social media featuring the character Sun Wukong and announcing new limited-time meal options.

Okay, so I just heard about these new mooncakes and I’m already excited! They’ve got a ‘Golden Crispy Chicken Egg Mooncake’ and a ‘Cheese Double Beef Black Gold Mooncake’ – seriously, how good do those sound? And it’s not just mooncakes, they’re also bringing back Crispy Shrimp Nuggets and Curly Fries with a special dipping sauce they’re calling ‘as golden as treasure.’ I can’t wait to try everything!

We’re offering a few new desserts: a sparkling milk tea with autumn osmanthus flavor, a McFlurry with rich golden egg yolk, and a sesame lava pie filled with creamy egg yolk.

And there’s more! Fans can also buy a special, reversible velvet robe featuring an embroidered Monkey King playfully balancing a burger on his head.

Some McDonald’s restaurants across the country have gotten into the spirit of the game by decorating their locations and even opening temporary shops. These pop-up shops are selling exclusive items like tote bags, t-shirts, and collectible pins.

This partnership is causing a stir, with many food lovers in the West wishing they could experience it too – one person even tweeted about not getting access to these exciting offerings in the US.

McDonald’s latest international campaign is making waves online! After almost ten years, the popular Monopoly game is returning to U.S. restaurants.
