McDonald’s finally brings its biggest burger yet to the US, but there’s a catch

While the Big Mac is a McDonald’s staple, the company’s newest, larger burger is now available in the United States.

The Big Arch burger first launched in Portugal in July 2024 and quickly gained popularity, spreading to Canada and Germany. By 2025, it had reached the UK, Ireland, and France, becoming one of McDonald’s most successful international menu items in a short period of time.

The Big Arch is a step up from the Double Quarter Pounder, offering a more indulgent experience. It’s loaded with two quarter-pound patties, three slices of white cheese, crispy and slivered onions, pickles, lettuce, and a special Big Arch Sauce, all served on a sesame and poppy seed bun.

The McDonald’s app shows the burger costs $7.99 by itself, or $10.99 if you add fries and a drink.

US launch starts in Chicago

Currently, the Big Arch burger is only available to customers at McDonald’s headquarters restaurant in Chicago as part of their international menu offerings. While it’s not available across the country yet, McDonald’s has suggested it might expand the burger’s availability in the future.

As a McDonald’s fan, I was really excited to hear that the Big Arch burger – it’s their bigger burger – is doing well in Portugal, Germany, and Canada! Apparently, it shows McDonald’s is actually paying attention to what people want. The CEO, Chris Kempczinski, said they’re planning to roll it out to even more countries next year, which is awesome news! It sounds like they’re working with franchise owners to make that happen quickly.

McDonald’s reported that the burger has been very popular internationally, which has sped up its introduction to more countries, and suggests it may become available in more locations across the U.S. soon.

If launched nationally by the end of 2025, this wouldn’t be the first new burger McDonald’s has released this year. They already introduced the Daily Double in July, offering the combo meal for just $6.
