The mayor of a Japanese city recently unveiled a special bus decorated with the Pokemon Quagsire. To celebrate, the mayor even wore a hat featuring the cheerful Pokemon from Generation 2 at the press conference.
A new bus featuring Pokemon characters and local sights has been launched in Shimanto, Japan. It’s intended for both people who live there and visitors, and quickly became popular online, partly because the mayor wore a Pokemon-themed hat at the unveiling.
Quagsire bus aims to boost tourism
The new vehicle, called the “Nuoo-go,” takes its name from the Japanese name for Quagsire (Nuoh, pronounced noo-oh). It travels from Nakamura Station to popular spots like the Sada submerged bridge and the Dragonfly Nature Park.
The city of Shimanto has introduced a unique bus decorated with the Pokémon Quagsire. The mayor revealed the new bus, wearing a Quagsire hat, and explained it’s intended for both people who live in the area and visitors. Quagsire is the official mascot Pokémon for Kochi prefecture, serving as its ‘Support Pokémon’.

In late 2024, Quagsire became the official support Pokémon for Kochi Prefecture. The Pokémon was selected because its calm, water-loving nature reflects the region’s rivers and beautiful natural surroundings.
At the launch event, the mayor expressed his hope that the new bus would create wonderful experiences for both residents and tourists. He also managed to turn heads with his eye-catching Quagsire hat!
The world of Pokémon frequently partners with real-world brands and events, and with the 30th anniversary coming up in 2026, these collaborations have become even more common.
Just recently, the Japanese restaurant chain Gusto launched a Pokémon promotion across the country, featuring food inspired by the original Pokémon starters. Also, Pokémon announced in February that several Boeing airplanes would be decorated with special Pokémon designs.
