Matthew Perry Gifted Lisa Kudrow the ‘Friends’ Cookie Jar in 2004. She Found the Note He Left Inside It 20 Years Later and After His Death: ‘Timing Is Everything’

During an interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” as reported by People, Lisa Kudrow shared that she found a note from the late Matthew Perry inside the “Friends” cookie jar, a gift given after they finished filming the series finale in January 2004. The contents of the letter remain a secret, but Kudrow hinted: “Timing is crucial.

The disclosure unfolded following Barrymore inquiring about whether Kudrow had ever taken any set props from a TV show or film production. Kudrow admitted to doing so but declined naming specific items, leaving Barrymore curious as to the current whereabouts of the “Friends” cookie jar.

Kudrow stated that Matthew handed something to him towards the finale of our previous series. It was a note he’d discovered later on, one meant for him. Interestingly, he hadn’t peeked inside or even opened it up. But yes, it was there. There indeed was a message within and somehow I had overlooked it…Timing can be crucial.

For ten years, Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), and Chandler Bing (Courtney’s character played by Matthew Perry) worked together to create the legendary NBC sitcom, which ran for an impressive 236 episodes. Sadly, Perry passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54. To pay tribute to her late friend and colleague, Kudrow posted a heartfelt photo of them both on social media, taken during the NBC Upfronts after filming only the “Friends” pilot episode.

I’m deeply grateful for the daily laughter you brought into my life with your jokes, leaving my muscles sore and tears streaming down my face. I appreciate your openness in our complex six-person relationship, where understanding and communication were key. I admire your dedication to work even when you weren’t feeling well, and the brilliance you displayed during those times. The past 10 years have been truly special. Thank you for putting your trust in me, and for teaching me so much about grace and love. I cherish every moment we shared together, Matthew.

More recently, Kudrow drew attention by disclosing that the Friends cast had reunited just once during the span of 17 years following the series finale in 2004, up until the recording of “Friends: The Reunion” which aired on Max in 2021.
