Matt Smith Smokes a Cigarette Shirtless in First Look at Sky’s Nick Cave Series ‘The Death of Bunny Munro’

As a movie critic with a penchant for gritty, character-driven dramas and a soft spot for British productions, I must admit that “The Death of Bunny Munro” has piqued my interest. The first look at this six-part series based on Nick Cave’s cult novel promises an intense exploration of a father-son relationship, tinged with grief, confusion, and the raw realities of life.

Matt Smith adopts a rough, rebellious persona in the initial glimpse of Sky’s six-episode series titled “The Death of Bunny Munro,” an adaptation from Nick Cave’s popular novel.

In the first picture revealed for the show, actor Smith, cast as the main character, is seen wearing just his undergarments while preparing to smoke inside a laundromat. Accompanying Smith is newcomer Rafael Mathé, portraying Bunny Munro’s son, named Bunny Junior.

Titled “The Death of Bunny Munro,” this narrative can be characterized as a “wild cautionary tale” and a “tender portrayal of a father-son relationship.” The story unfolds following the suicide of Bunny’s wife, Libby. According to its summary:

In addition to Smith and Mathé, the cast of “The Death of Bunny Munro” includes Sarah Greene (known for “Bad Sisters” and “Rosie”) portraying Libby, Johann Myers (“Somewhere Boy” and “Without Sin”) as Poodle, Robert Glenister (“Sherwood” and “Hustle”) as Geoffrey, Alice Feetham (“Boiling Point” and “Save Me”) as Yvonne, David Threlfall (“Shameless” and “Funny Woman”) as Bunny Snr, Lindsay Duncan (“Truelove” and “The Morning Show”) as Doris Pennington, and Elizabeth Berrington (seen in “Last Night in Soho” and “In Bruges”) as Charlotte Parnovar.

2025 marks the year when an upcoming show will debut on our screens. This groundbreaking series was penned by BAFTA-winning writer Pete Jackson, best known for “Somewhere Boy”. The talented Isabella Eklöf, renowned for her work in “Industry”, is set to direct this project.
