MatPat reveals what he’s been doing since retiring from YouTube

MatPat recently discussed his projects and personal life since leaving his popular YouTube channel earlier in 2024.

Matthew Patrick, known as the host of Game Theory, explained that stepping back from making videos every week has given him more time to focus on causes he cares about and pursue other creative endeavors.

After stepping away from making videos, we’ve been quietly working with members of Congress to support creators and protect their rights,” he told TopMob.

Patrick and his wife, Stephanie, have been talking to politicians to explain how online content creation works. They also held a press conference at the Capitol, which led to a lot of online jokes and speculation that Patrick might run for president in 2028.

New projects and collaborations

MatPat also discussed his Creators in Fashion event, which brings together online creators and the fashion industry. This project, recently teaming up with VidSummit, aims to help creators develop their own brands and examine how online popularity is changing fashion and business.

When he’s not working, the YouTuber has been enjoying playing video games and watching content he didn’t have time for while he was constantly creating videos. He recently played Split Fiction with his son and has now started playing Hollow Knight: Silksong. He’s also been watching film commentary videos by Patrick H. Willems and other content creators.

Patrick observed that YouTube is changing, with a mix of highly produced content and more casual, homemade videos. He noted a trend of viewers moving away from the style of overly elaborate videos—like those made by MrBeast—and seeking out content that feels more authentic and genuine.

He then shared his personal list of the four most influential YouTubers, including Jenna Marbles, PewDiePie, MrBeast, and himself.
