David Del Rio, known for his role as Billy Martinez on *Matlock*, has left the CBS series following an investigation. CBS Studios learned of a sexual assault allegation made by a female cast member and removed Del Rio from the set the week of September 29, according to *The Hollywood Reporter*. Production on the second season of the Kathy Bates show, which begins October 11, will pause for a scheduled break and then resume in November. Scripts are being revised to remove Del Rio’s character. CBS Studios has not commented on the matter.
In the revival of the classic ‘Andy Griffith’ show, Del Rio stars as a new lawyer at a New York firm. He works with Leah Lewis, who plays his friend and competitor, Skye P. Marshall as the firm’s partner Olympia Lawrence, and Jason Ritter as Olympia’s ex-husband and colleague, Julian. Meanwhile, Bates received an Emmy nomination for her role as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a clever lawyer who unexpectedly returns to her career with a hidden agenda.
