Massive layoffs at Hi-Rez Studios. Dev ends development of three games to fully focus on just one – Smite 2

Hi-Rez Studios, like other gaming industry companies, has recently undergone significant job reductions. While we don’t have an exact figure, sources close to the team suggest that around 50-60 developers were let go. This move is likely to significantly impact the company’s operations and may lead to a halt in support for various projects.

  1. Hi-Rez Studios is giving up further development of the games Smite, Paladins, and Rogue Company.
  2. All three games will remain active, at least for now, but the company has no plans for any new content for them.
  3. The studio is now focusing on Smite 2, although the team responsible for this project has also been affected by layoffs.

At Hi-Rez Studios, there’s been another round of job reductions, following some smaller-scale layoffs that occurred back in October of the previous year.

Back in the latter half of last year, I got my hands on an early version of Smite 2. This action-packed game can be played on PC, next-gen consoles like the Xbox Series S and X, as well as the PlayStation 5. The makers have opted for a free-to-play model with some optional in-game purchases.
