‘Mary Poppins’ Special Reveals New ‘It’s a Small World’ Verse Written By Richard Sherman Before His Death (EXCLUSIVE)

As a connoisseur of all things Disney and a fervent admirer of the Sherman Brothers, I find myself utterly captivated by this upcoming ABC special, “The Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A Special Edition of 20/20.” The fact that Richard M. Sherman, the genius behind some of Disney’s most beloved songs, wrote a new verse for “It’s A Small World” before his passing, and we get to witness it for the first time, is nothing short of magical!

After his passing in May, renowned songwriter Richard M. Sherman penned one last composition for Disney – an additional verse for “It’s A Small World.” For the very first time, this fresh verse will be revealed during a forthcoming ABC special.

In a brief three-and-a-half-minute short movie set to premiere next Wednesday on ABC, we will finally get our first glimpse of the new character addition. This movie will be screened as part of ABC News Studios’ special edition titled “The Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A 20/20 Special,” which is scheduled for broadcast on ABC on November 27th.

As per ABC News, “following the melody of a cherished tune, we’ll travel worldwide, witnessing how it gets passed down from one individual to another, spanning generations. The climax will be unveiling a moving new stanza that adds to its timeless beauty.

Sherman, who wrote the songs for “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and also “It’s a Small World” with his brother Robert, died in May at 95. But he had written the new verse before his death.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be tuning in for an extraordinary two-night event hosted by ABC, commemorating the 60th anniversary of “Mary Poppins.” On November 27th, at 9 p.m. ET, I’ll be glued to my screen on ABC, as they unveil “The Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A Special Edition of 20/20.” This unique program promises a treasure trove of seldom-seen photos, footage, and exclusive interviews with the legendary Dick Van Dyke, along with Josh Gad, John Stamos, Lin Manuel Miranda, and even two of Walt Disney’s grandchildren. But what has me most excited is the promised “special interview” with the one and only Julie Andrews! Can’t wait to reminisce and celebrate this timeless classic together!

On Thanksgiving evening, I’ll be looking forward to ABC’s enchanting showcase of the timeless classic “Mary Poppins,” featuring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in their iconic roles.
