Mary Cosby Feels Hurt by Family Participating in TLC Cult Documentary

Mary Cosby recently responded to the TLC documentary focusing on her and her church, and she seems surprisingly unfazed by it. During the second reunion episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season six, Cosby admitted she was hurt that some family members took part in TLC’s The Cult of a Real Housewife. She told Andy Cohen, “It definitely hurt me, but I’ve been through so much, I’m pretty resilient. It just adds to the list of things that have hurt me over the years.”

A new documentary, The Cult of a Real Housewife, debuted on TLC on New Year’s Day. It alleges that Mary Cosby and her husband financially and spiritually manipulated members of their Faith Temple Pentecostal church. One former member stated they lived with the Cosbys for years, working as a housekeeper without pay. The documentary also details the church’s origins, tracing back to its founder, Mary’s grandmother, Rosemary “Mama” Cosby. Mary’s sister, Denise Jefferson Odinaka, and cousin, Dan Cosby, both appeared in the film.

Within the Bravo TV world, the documentary about Faith Temple received little attention, likely because similar concerns were already discussed on season two of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Cameron Williams, a former member of Faith Temple, previously told Lisa Barlow that the church exhibited cult-like behavior and its leader referred to herself as ‘God.’ Williams passed away in 2021, and Cosby didn’t participate in that year’s reunion because she didn’t want to revisit the topic of Cameron and his experiences.

At the reunion, Cosby explained that she believes some people in Utah criticize her church because they don’t understand it. She said this is likely due to the church’s unique practices and rules, noting that many in Utah aren’t familiar with Pentecostal churches or Black churches.
