Following the news that Jake Schreier will direct the new X-Men movie, fans are getting a potential release date to look forward to. Jeff Sneider of *World of Reel* reported on *The Hot Mic* that Marvel is planning to release the *X-Men* film on May 5, 2028, kicking off the summer movie season.
The film’s release date seems intentionally chosen to coincide closely with a major milestone: it’s just three days after the 20th anniversary of *Iron Man*, the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A New Beginning for Marvel
Following the conclusion of the *Endgame* saga, Marvel appears focused on exploring new and original stories. The franchise, once incredibly popular, has faced challenges lately, with recent films reportedly losing money. Disney, Marvel’s parent company, is probably aiming for some major successes to ensure the continued viability of the series.

With the X-Men universe getting a fresh start, the upcoming 2028 film won’t include any of the original cast members. Marvel president Kevin Feige has indicated the movie will focus on a younger team of mutants and feature a completely new group of actors.
Feige also shared his perspective on the X-Men comics.
He explained to reporters that the stories have always centered on young people who feel like outsiders. He said this feeling of being different and not belonging is the core of the mutant experience, and that’s the direction they’re taking the narrative.

The company head also made sure to clarify that he doesn’t want this to be considered a “reboot.”
The word ‘reboot’ can be unsettling because it’s open to interpretation,” he explained. “We’re considering something more like a fresh start, or a single, continuous storyline.”
Michael Lesslie, known for his writing on *The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes* and his well-received 2015 version of *Macbeth*, will be writing the story’s reset.
Crushing Fancast Rumors
Because official details about the project are scarce, fans have been speculating online. Most of this speculation involves harmless guesses about who might be cast, though some rumors have already been proven false. For example, several reports claimed Margaret Qualley, known for her role in *The Substance*, was being considered for the part of Rogue, but the actress herself denied these claims.

Earlier this year, in an interview with Collider, Qualley was asked whether she’d be interested in joining a big movie or TV franchise, and if so, which one she’d choose.
She explained she wasn’t interested in opening a franchise. She felt it would be too time-consuming and admitted she was worried about it.

Despite the recent news, some fans still think the studio might be intentionally misleading everyone. Since the movie isn’t due for another three years, we’ll probably have to be patient before we hear any official updates about the X-Men joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
