Insomniac Games, the studio behind the popular Marvel’s Spider-Man games and the Miles Morales adventure, has earned a lot of praise in recent years. Now, they’re working on a new project that has Marvel enthusiasts buzzing – a game featuring a well-known mutant making a comeback.
It’s been over a decade since Wolverine last starred in his own video game – X-Men Origins: Wolverine, released in 2009, was a violent, action-packed adventure. Now, Insomniac Games is creating a new Wolverine game that feels like a follow-up to that earlier title. Although still in development, some new details about Marvel’s Wolverine have recently been shared.

When will Marvel’s Wolverine be released?
Marvel’s Wolverine game, announced at the September 2025 State of Play, is scheduled to release in Fall 2026.
Insomniac Games has an incredible track record of releasing high-quality games. Since 2018, they’ve launched Marvel’s Spider-Man, a large expansion for that game, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, followed by Spider-Man 2 in October 2023. They’re known for developing games relatively quickly, which is unusual these days when many projects take years. There was speculation that Marvel’s Wolverine might be released in Fall 2024, but that didn’t happen. When asked about a 2025 release, Insomniac declined to comment.
Marvel’s Wolverine platforms
It’s no surprise that Marvel’s Wolverine will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, as the game is being made by Insomniac, which Sony bought in 2019. However, it’s likely the game will also be released on PC eventually, following the pattern of other games Insomniac has created.
Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay
Wolverine isn’t a hero who relies on charm or gentle tactics, and Insomniac Games wants players to *feel* that in their new game. They’re striving for a truly powerful Wolverine experience, with intense, brutal combat alongside exciting environments and a compelling story. The initial gameplay trailer showed this off perfectly, with Wolverine using his claws to aggressively attack and tear through enemies.
The game will likely be mature in tone, which suits Wolverine’s character as a hardened fighter. Insomniac Games is known for fast-paced action, so we can expect exciting gameplay. They’re also skilled at exploring characters’ feelings, suggesting this game will balance intense action with a compelling emotional story.
Marvel’s Wolverine story
Insomniac is keeping the story details for Marvel’s Wolverine under wraps, but they’ve hinted that it will be a fresh take on the character, revealing hidden truths from his troubled history.
Marvel’s Wolverine actor
Insomniac Games brought the character Logan to life by casting Australian actor Liam McIntyre, who provided both the voice and motion capture performance. McIntyre is well-known for his leading role as Spartacus in the TV show *Spartacus: Vengeance*, and he’s also a seasoned voice actor, having played characters like Captain Boomerang and Aquaman in various DC animated movies.
As fans know, Wolverine is a popular character, and I’m working to understand what makes him tick, especially for our story. He’s been hurt, used, and betrayed, but he always stands up for those who can’t defend themselves.
Marvel’s Wolverine cameos
As you’d expect from a Marvel game, several well-known characters will appear in Marvel’s Wolverine. Players will encounter the cunning shapeshifter Mystique and Omega Red, one of Wolverine’s most dangerous foes. The game will also feature the Reavers, a long-time threat to Wolverine and the X-Men in the comics – a group of dangerous cyborg criminals. The trailer even suggested a massive battle against a giant, Kaiju-style Sentinel, the notorious robots built to hunt mutants.
