The Incredible Hulk Had a Unique Tone But is Hard to Stream Now
Dr. David Banner, who became Bruce Banner, deliberately exposed himself to gamma radiation, resulting in his transformation into the Hulk. The story isn’t about a gamma bomb, but rather a darker tale of a man constantly on the run, pursued by a determined reporter. As Banner attempts to conceal his condition and find a way to reverse it, he encounters people he feels compelled to protect, and the stressful situations often trigger his transformation into the Hulk.
Before The Incredible Hulk, several dramatic shows aired in the 70s and 80s, but few were as unique. Each episode showed a potential life for David Banner, only to be disrupted by the Hulk’s appearance. The show primarily focused on his travels as he simply tried to survive.
The scientist’s persistent sadness, despite his efforts to find a cure, sharply contrasts with the optimistic hopes of a recent past. David’s work honestly portrays the difficulties many people face in modern America.
Before The Incredible Hulk, superhero TV shows weren’t really considered worthwhile, with Batman being the only previous example that had gained any traction. What’s more, the series is notable for not having a cheerful conclusion; it ends with the rather somber episode titled The Incredible Hulk.
The show was deeply sad from beginning to end. But it’s even more frustrating that, in today’s world, you can’t watch it for free unless a streaming service picks it up.
The Incredible Hulk Needs to Reach a Wider Audience
Now that the Hulk is becoming popular again, it’s important to make sure fans – both longtime followers and newcomers – can easily access his stories. Besides the 2008 movie and the cartoon from the 1990s, there aren’t many options, especially when it comes to live-action TV shows.
Even though Disney+ is now the main place to watch Marvel shows and movies, it’s surprisingly missing some content. The Incredible Hulk seems like an obvious addition, but it’s actually quite difficult to find. Considering it’s a show everyone should see at least once, its absence from streaming services is particularly frustrating.
Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno brilliantly portrayed Dr. David Banner and the Hulk, proving that superhero stories can be deeply moving. With incredible transformations and displays of power, the show offers something for both superhero enthusiasts and those who enjoy compelling drama.
Since The Incredible Hulk is becoming harder to find, it risks being forgotten, which is a shame. As a groundbreaking dramatic series and a part of the Marvel universe, it deserves recognition and preservation before it disappears from view.
