Aldis Hodge, who is being considered to take over the role of Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently discussed the possibility. After Chadwick Boseman’s death in 2020, Marvel chose Letitia Wright’s character, Shuri, to become the Black Panther in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But reports suggest a new actor will play T’Challa in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars film, and with no one officially cast yet, fans are speculating about who it might be.
Aldis Hodge is a popular fan choice to take on the role of T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he recently discussed the possibility. While speaking with Matthew Lillard on the Who Let Us Out podcast, Hodge stated that Marvel Studios hasn’t contacted him about becoming the new Black Panther. However, he did say he’d be open to the role if the story felt right and built upon the foundation Ryan Coogler and Chadwick Boseman established.
I haven’t received any calls from Marvel, but if they ever did reach out with a role that felt right and built upon what they’ve already created, I’d definitely be interested in being a part of it, even in a small way.

Hodge spoke highly of both Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and the late Chadwick Boseman’s performance. He explained that taking on the role of T’Challa isn’t just acting, but rather “stepping into service,” because the movie holds deep meaning for so many people.
I’m a big admirer of the film, of course. But if they ever decide to recast Black Panther, what really made the original so special was its cultural significance. Chadwick Boseman and Ryan Coogler created something lasting and important, giving many Black and brown children a hero they could truly identify with and aspire to be like.
Whoever takes on this role needs to honor and build upon the film’s history. It’s less about filling a position and more about dedicating oneself to the impact this movie has had on audiences.
While Hodge is a potential candidate to play T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Damson Idris, who recently gained prominence with F1, is also being discussed as a possible successor for the role of Black Panther.
In October 2025, Idris Elba initially denied knowing about being considered for the role of Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying, “No, no. I don’t know anything about it.” But he immediately started to smile when the interviewer brought up the Marvel role, hinting that he may have been familiar with the discussions.
Why Aldis Hodge Is a Perfect Choice for the MCU’s Black Panther

It appeared Hodge recognized the immense pressure and significance of succeeding Chadwick Boseman as the new Black Panther, solidifying his position as a strong contender for the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Aldis Hodge’s role as the intricate character Hawkman in Black Adam has prepared him well for future superhero projects.
Many have also noted that Michael Hodge has a similar build to Chadwick Boseman, making him a strong candidate to take on the roles of both T’Challa and Black Panther, possibly starting with the movie Avengers: Secret Wars.
Michael Hodge isn’t just popular with fans for the role of T’Challa – he’s a talented actor who could really bring the character to life. His performances in Prime Video’s Cross (as a smart detective) and Black Adam showed he has both charisma and a strong physical presence, making him a compelling and dignified choice for the part.
