Unfortunately, the new series Wonder Man isn’t performing as well as hoped. After premiering on Disney+ in late January, it’s now losing viewers and dropping in the streaming rankings.
According to FlixPatrol, Wonder Man remains in the top 10 globally on Disney+, currently at number four. However, its popularity is decreasing. While the show nearly reached the number one spot in the United States for most of the week, holding steady at number two, it has now dropped to fifth place as of February 16th. Overall, Wonder Man is trending downwards and isn’t currently the most popular show in any country.
Similar to its performance in the US, Wonder Man is seeing declining viewership in other countries. In Canada, the show started at number 2 but has dropped to number 7. It’s also at risk of falling off the charts entirely in the United Kingdom, where it reached a high of number 4 but is now at number 9.
The January 27th debut of Wonder Man may be a key reason why the show has struggled to keep viewers engaged. It’s the 17th TV series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it delves into a previously unseen corner of that world.
After superheroes are outlawed in Hollywood, struggling actor Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) keeps his powers a secret and becomes friends with Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley). They team up to try and get cast in a new version of the movie Wonder Man, offering Marvel fans a fun, behind-the-scenes look at the world of superheroes.
The show Wonder Man is based on the Marvel character of the same name, first introduced in 1964 by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby. Created for television by Andrew Guest, who also worked on Shang-Chi, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and 30 Rock, the series has generally earned positive reviews. It currently holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, with audiences giving it a score of 88%.
The Future of the MCU Remains Bright Despite Underwhelming Recent Releases
Although people seem to be enjoying Wonder Man, it’s starting to look like Marvel’s recent movies and shows are facing the same problems as earlier ones that didn’t perform well. Recent theatrical releases, like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts, haven’t been as successful as Marvel’s previous hits.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m seriously excited about what’s coming! The MCU’s future looks incredibly promising. We’ve got some movies I’ve been waiting for ages to see releasing later this year – Spider-Man: Brand New Day drops July 31st, and Avengers: Doomsday is coming December 18th. And it’s not just the big screen – on TV, after Wonder Man, we’re getting a new season of Daredevil: Born Again on March 24th, with VisionQuest also planned for release.
