Marvel Studios is planning a significantly lighter schedule of movies and TV shows in 2027 compared to recent years. They currently have just one film and one show scheduled for release. This will make 2027 the year with the fewest Marvel Cinematic Universe projects since 2020, when no new content was released.
2027 to bring just one MCU show and one movie
According to reports, Marvel Studios is planning to release just one TV show – the third season of Daredevil: Born Again – and one movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, in 2027.
2027 will see the fewest Marvel movies and TV shows released in a year since 2020. Currently, only three live-action projects are planned for 2024: the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, and the shows Agatha All Along and Echo. Unless Marvel announces another project, like a sequel to the Werewolf by Night special, 2027 will still have the smallest lineup.
This strategy is similar to how Marvel released films during its first two phases. From 2008 to 2012 (Phase 1), they typically released one or two movies each year, with the exception of 2009. Then, during Phase 2 (2013-2015), they released two movies annually.
The third season of Daredevil: Born Again is currently planned to be released in March 2027. Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum mentioned in an interview with Agents of Fandom that the show is aiming for a March release each year, provided the audience continues to watch and enjoy it.
Filming for Season 3 is expected to start on March 6, 2026, just about two weeks before Season 2 arrives on March 24. While details about the plot are still secret, sources say the shadowy organization known as The Hand will be back. This group was a major force in the original Daredevil series, and had a close connection to the character Elektra (played by Élodie Yung). They also appeared in the Defenders miniseries, though their members were seemingly defeated.
The next Avengers movie, titled Secret Wars, is planned for release on December 17, 2027. It will be a direct continuation of the story from the previous film, Avengers: Doomsday, and both are expected to wrap up the current storyline, known as the Multiverse Saga.
