Marvel Studios is currently making the fourth film in a major series, set to launch next year and finish the fourth major story arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After some recent challenges with critical and audience reception, Marvel plans to return to two well-loved franchises in 2026 as part of Phase 6: Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’m so excited! It’s been nearly five years since No Way Home blew everyone away – even during the pandemic – and now Tom Holland is officially coming back as Peter Parker! He’ll be starring in Brand New Day in the summer of 2026, which will be his fourth solo film and wrap up this amazing chapter of Spider-Man movies.
The British actor is finally fulfilling fans’ hopes for a fourth Spider-Man movie, something they’ve been waiting over 15 years for. Originally, Marvel legend Tobey Maguire was set to star in a fourth film directed by Sam Raimi, planned for release on May 6, 2011. However, those plans were cancelled when the studio decided to reboot the series with The Amazing Spider-Man instead.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have confirmed that “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will be released in theaters on July 31, 2026. This will officially mark the beginning of the fourth set of four movies featuring Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers

In 2019, the Avengers series became the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reach four main films. Endgame concluded the epic Infinity Saga, resolving the shocking ending of Infinity War. Initially, Avengers 4 was going to be called Infinity War – Part 2, but the title was changed to Endgame before it was released.
The incredibly popular superhero series will reach a major new achievement on December 18, 2026, when Avengers: Doomsday is released. This will make it the first five-movie series from Marvel Studios, and it will become a six-movie series just a year later in 2027 with the release of Secret Wars.
Thor

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe hero to appear in four movies, with 2022’s Love & Thunder. However, the four Thor films are quite different from each other, shifting dramatically in tone and style – sometimes feeling like a grand, dramatic saga and other times like a silly comedy. This is largely due to changes in directors and the overall approach to the story.
There’s been a lot of talk lately that Marvel Studios is considering a fifth Thor movie, even though Love & Thunder received a mixed response. Reportedly, they’re planning to bring in a different director – someone who’s worked with Chris Hemsworth before – instead of Taika Waititi. However, with rumors suggesting Thor might die in one of the next Avengers films, it’s unclear if Thor 5 will actually happen.
Captain America

The Captain America movies from Marvel Studios are a bit different from other series because the main character changed. Both Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson have been important as Captain America, and the Brave New World storyline has started a new path that could eventually become a three-part series of its own.
Sam Wilson is poised to become a key leader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, guiding a new Avengers team through major upcoming events like Doomsday and Secret Wars. However, after his first Captain America movie didn’t perform well in theaters, it seems unlikely he’ll get another solo film anytime soon.
Spider-Man 4

Even though the upcoming movie technically makes Spider-Man a four-part series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it feels more like the beginning of a fresh trilogy. Now that the Home trilogy directed by Jon Watts is finished, the 2026 film will launch a new chapter for Peter Parker, and it’s expected to be significantly more serious in tone.
Tom Holland is set to become one of only three actors to star in four or more solo superhero movies. He’ll join Christopher Reeve (known for Superman) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as the only leading actors to achieve this, having each headlined a four-film series.
The Only 3 Other Superhero Movie Quadrilogies
Besides the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only three series of four superhero films have ever been created. The first was the Superman series starring Christopher Reeve, which started with the iconic 1978 movie and concluded nine years later with The Quest for Peace.
The four Batman films starring Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and George Clooney – from Keaton’s Batman (1989) to Clooney’s Batman & Robin (1997) – are often seen as a single series of four movies, as each actor played the same character, Bruce Wayne.
From 2000 to 2019, 20th Century Fox released seven X-Men movies with mixed reviews. This series is currently the longest-running superhero sub-franchise in film history, and it will likely remain so until Marvel Studios releases a seventh Avengers movie.
Although Deadpool & Wolverine could be seen as a continuation of the story from Logan, effectively making it the fourth film featuring Wolverine, it largely functions as a sequel to Deadpool more than anything else.
