The idea of a vast multiverse within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is really coming to life. With the recent introduction of Earth-828 in *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, the MCU now includes 10 different live-action alternate realities. These different worlds will likely play a huge role in the upcoming multiversal conflicts in *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*.
Earth-828 is the home reality of the Fantastic Four and exists as a separate universe from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-626). In this world, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm are celebrated heroes. Because they previously repelled Galactus (as seen in *First Steps*), this Earth is predicted to be important in resolving the current Multiverse Saga. However, it’s just one of many alternate Earths that are part of the larger story, and not the first one introduced.
The MCU’s 10 Live-Action Alternate Earths
Earth-616
The main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the setting for iconic moments like Captain America freezing himself in 1945, Tony Stark creating his first Iron Man suit, and the Avengers’ final battle with Thanos in *Avengers: Endgame*. Recently, the MCU’s New Avengers team saw a spaceship belonging to the Fantastic Four, hinting at a potential crossover and raising questions about how different realities – Earth-838 and Earth-616 – might connect.
Earth-96283
Tobey Maguire first played Spider-Man in 2002, battling villains like the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus across three movies. These characters, along with Maguire’s Spider-Man, later appear in the movie *Spider-Man: No Way Home* and significantly change the story for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Earth-120703
Andrew Garfield also played Peter Parker, gaining his powers from a radioactive spider in 2013. Throughout his two films, he fought villains like the Lizard, Electro, and the Green Goblin (Harry Osborn), but sadly couldn’t save his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. Similar to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Garfield and two of his enemies were brought into the main Marvel universe in *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, giving him a chance to make things right.
Earth-688
In 2019, Tom Hardy’s character, Eddie Brock, merges with the alien Symbiote, Venom, in San Francisco. Over the course of three films, they work together as a powerful, albeit sometimes dangerous, protector. The worlds of Earth-688 and Earth-616 have connected on multiple occasions, including instances where Eddie Brock and Venom briefly travel between them, and when the villain Vulture from *Spider-Man: Homecoming* appears in Earth-688, as shown in scenes after the credits.
Earth-617
In *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, the movie explored different versions of Earth. One of these, Earth-617, showed a Doctor Strange becoming the Sorcerer Supreme, teaming up with America Chavez, and assisting her in her quest to find the Book of Vishanti.
Earth-838
I was completely blown away by one of the alternate universes in *Doctor Strange 2* – Earth-838! It showed a version of our world where Doctor Strange had gathered a team called the Illuminati to defend their reality. The lineup was incredible – it included different versions of heroes we know, like Professor X from the X-Men, Mister Fantastic (played by John Krasinski, which was so cool!), Captain Carter as portrayed by Hayley Atwell, Black Bolt, a version of Captain Marvel played by Maria Rambeau, and even Baron Mordo! It was wild seeing all these powerful characters together.
Earth-10005
In the upcoming Marvel movie *Deadpool & Wolverine*, we learn about Earth-10005, a universe where Wolverine (James “Logan” Howlett) receives his adamantium skeleton, becomes an X-Man, and eventually passes away. Meanwhile, Deadpool gains superpowers and decides to retire from heroics to live a normal life.
Earth-121698
The reality seen in the *Fantastic Four* movies and *Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer* connected with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in *Deadpool & Wolverine*. Specifically, Chris Evans reprised his role as Johnny Storm, making an appearance in the film (you can find a complete list of the cast and cameos in *Deadpool 3* here).
Earth-701306
The alternate Earth first seen in the 2003 film *Daredevil* and again in 2005’s *Elektra* officially became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in *Deadpool & Wolverine*. This was made possible by Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra in a cameo appearance.
Earth-26320
Earth-26320 is one of the earliest alternate universes established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It first appeared in the 1998 film *Blade*, starring Wesley Snipes as Eric Brooks. Snipes recently returned to the role, officially connecting the *Blade* series to the MCU in the upcoming *Deadpool & Wolverine* movie.
Earth-828
Let me tell you about Earth-828, the newest alternate reality to join the MCU! It’s a really cool world, heavily inspired by the 1960s, and a nice nod to Jack Kirby, the legendary creator of the Fantastic Four – 828 is a tribute to his birthday. Here, Reed Richards’ inventions have made life better for everyone. But it’s Sue Storm who *really* shines – she’s the founder of the Future Foundation and has actually managed to bring about world peace! Of course, Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben Grimm are still the Fantastic Four, protecting their version of New York City from a whole host of familiar comic book baddies. It’s a fun take on the team and a really interesting world to see on screen.
