Marvel Studios Confirms When Its 11th MCU Trilogy Will End

Marvel Studios has apparently decided when the final Black Panther movie will be released. Black Panther 3 is now expected to hit theaters in 2028. The New York Times revealed this information in a recent article about director Ryan Coogler and his work on the hit film Sinners, as well as his ongoing projects with Marvel. This means Black Panther 3 will be among the first movies to come out after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars.

The release timing is important. The first Black Panther movie came out during the height of the ‘Infinity Saga’ (Phase 3), and its successful sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, helped launch the ‘Multiverse Saga’ (Phase 4). However, the third movie will be the first film to kick off the next major phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making it uniquely positioned to shape the future after the Secret Wars storyline. Director Ryan Coogler is very excited about the project, telling the Times he’s “so fired up about that movie, bro.”

Every Marvel Studios Trilogy So Far

Iron Man

The Iron Man movies were the first of what became the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they introduced audiences to Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Tony Stark. Over the course of three films – Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man 3 – the story deeply explored Tony Stark’s personal growth. These films showed his journey from a self-centered person to a hero, while also dealing with his inner struggles, including self-doubt, anxiety, and the trauma he experienced after the Battle of New York.

These first three films were key to creating the winning formula for the series: relatable characters combined with huge action scenes. The trilogy ended with a touching conclusion in Iron Man 3, where Tony Stark deliberately got rid of his massive armor collection to concentrate on his relationship with Pepper Potts. This provided a sense of closure and paved the way for his larger role as a hero throughout the Avengers films.

Captain America

Many fans consider Steve Rogers’ story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be the best trilogy the franchise has to offer. It started with Captain America: The First Avenger, a film set during World War II that showed us the hero’s strong moral compass and inherent goodness. The story then shifted gears with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a suspenseful political thriller that dramatically changed SHIELD and the dynamic between Nick Fury and the government.

The story arc reached its climax with the large-scale, action-packed spy thriller, Captain America: Civil War. This final chapter fulfilled the emotional build-up from earlier films by showing Rogers directly challenging those in charge, splitting the Avengers, and permanently altering how the team functioned and operated legally.

Thor

Though Thor’s story continued in a fourth movie (Thor: Love and Thunder), his first three films (Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok) show his transformation from a reckless, self-centered prince exiled from Asgard to a thoughtful and caring king who leads his people.

The first two movies explored themes of privilege and family conflict, but the story reached its high point with Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi. This film added more action and humor, and significantly changed Thor’s appearance. In a pivotal moment, he destroyed his home world, Asgard, to protect his people from Hela and Surtur, allowing them to survive.

Spider-Man

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies – Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home – showed Peter Parker growing up as a hero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The films centered on his relationship with Tony Stark as a mentor, and how Peter struggled to juggle being a superhero with the normal difficulties of being a teenager.

The storyline focused on the dangers of tampering with the Multiverse, culminating in a heartbreaking sacrifice in No Way Home. This sacrifice caused the world to forget Peter Parker, leaving him alone to start a new life as an unknown hero.

Ant-Man

The three Ant-Man movies – Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – largely explored ideas about being a parent, the importance of family, and the complicated science of traveling through the Multiverse using the Quantum Realm.

The series started as a lighthearted heist comedy, but the final movie took a dramatic turn. It introduced the Council of Kangs and set up Kang the Conqueror as the main villain for the next phase of stories. However, those plans had to be altered because of legal issues involving Jonathan Majors.

Guardians of the Galaxy

James Gunn wrote and directed all three Guardians of the Galaxy films, creating a remarkably well-developed and satisfying story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trilogy follows a group of unlikely heroes who become a family, expertly blending hilarious, offbeat comedy with genuinely emotional and sometimes devastating moments, especially when exploring Rocket Raccoon’s difficult past.

The story ended with the team successfully finishing their last assignment and then going their separate ways, each member discovering their own goals and future direction.

Deadpool

The Deadpool series concluded with Deadpool & Wolverine, which brought the irreverent mercenary and the famous mutant Wolverine into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a huge movie fan, I was really excited about this film, which came out on July 26, 2024. What I loved is how it cleverly used the whole multiverse idea from the MCU – especially the Time Variance Authority – to perfectly fit Deadpool’s story into the bigger picture. It felt like they really respected what had come before in the first two Deadpool movies, but now it’s officially part of the main Marvel universe. And get this – it broke records, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever! It was a fantastic way to bring the character into the MCU.

What If…?

Marvel’s What If…? was the first major animated series to delve into alternate realities within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over its first two seasons, the show explored the endless possibilities of the Multiverse, and introduced new takes on familiar heroes like Captain Carter and a villainous Doctor Strange.

This animated series is a crucial three-part story that plays with different versions of the same narrative. It’s closely linked to the larger ‘Multiverse Saga,’ delving deeper into ideas like the cosmic being known as the Watcher and how Thanos’s actions impacted various universes.

WandaVision Trilogy

The WandaVision series is part of a larger three-show arc on Disney+ that follows the stories of Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness, and Vision. It started with WandaVision in 2021, which explored Wanda Maximoff’s intense sadness, her ability to change reality, and her journey to becoming the Scarlet Witch.

The story will continue with the dark comedy series Agatha All Along and finish with VisionQuest. These three parts together create a connected storyline that explores themes of magic, dealing with trauma, the meaning of grief, and the lasting impact of what happened in Westview.

Daredevil: Born Again

The series Daredevil: Born Again officially continues the story of Matt Murdock within the Marvel Studios universe, bringing back Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Daredevil and Kingpin. The first season, consisting of nine episodes, premiered on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. It successfully recreated the gritty, street-level feel of Hell’s Kitchen and reintroduced popular characters, while also laying the groundwork for Kingpin’s growing influence as a political figure.

Okay, so here’s the latest on this show. We’re looking at Season 2 hitting screens in March 2026 – surprisingly soon after the first! From what I’m hearing, it’s going to deal with the mess left behind by the political drama of Season 1 and really ramp up the tension between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who’s become a serious player. And the really exciting news? Marvel has already given the go-ahead for Season 3, which we can expect around March 2027. It sounds like they’re building something big here, and I’m definitely on board to see where it goes.

Black Panther

The Black Panther trilogy has become a worldwide cultural sensation, playing a key role in establishing the rich history, political strength, and advanced technology of Wakanda. Throughout the overarching Infinity and Multiverse storylines, the series explored powerful themes, beginning with T’Challa’s time as king and his eventual passing, and continuing with Shuri taking on the role of protector and striving for justice and peace.

The story will wrap up in 2028, completing the current character’s journey and establishing Wakanda as a key influence and source of inspiration for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the Multiverse Saga.
