Marvel Studios’ 3rd Saga Will Expand the MCU’s Magic Side Across 4 Major Franchises

After Avengers: Secret Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is predicted to explore more supernatural stories. Marvel Studios seems to be planning a fresh start for the MCU after Avengers 6, dividing its future content into three different areas, one of which will focus on the supernatural. Viewers have already seen hints of this mystical side of Marvel in the Multiverse Saga with shows and movies like Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Agatha All Along, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Marvel Studios has been holding back some of its most exciting supernatural projects, like Blade and Midnight Sons, much to the anticipation of fans. While work continues on them, the studio plans to release these after Avengers 5 and 6 finish the current Multiverse Saga.

Marvel Studios insider Alex Perez recently discussed the future of magic within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) during a Q&A session on The Cosmic Circus podcast. Beyond the upcoming Midnight Sons project, Perez hinted at several different magical storylines that Marvel plans to explore in Phases 7 through 9.

Midnight Sons

The Cosmic Circus is reporting updates on Marvel Studios’ upcoming supernatural team-up movie, Midnight Sons. Apparently, a new writer was brought on board over the summer after Michael Green, known for his work on Jungle Cruise and Murder on the Orient Express, left the project.

There’s been a lot of talk about the lineup for Marvel’s upcoming Midnight Sons team, and it’s expected to feature characters like Ghost Rider, Blade, and Moon Knight. Recent reports suggest that Kit Harington, who played Dane Whitman in Eternals, and Benedict Wong, as Wong, will also be joining the group.

Sources say Marvel Studios is planning a team-up of the Midnight Sons to battle Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto, potentially adapting the ‘Damnation’ storyline. The plot could involve Mephisto trying to bring Hell to Earth, and turning both heroes and villains into demons to do his bidding.

Strange Academy

Good news for fans of Marvel’s mystical side! Disney+ is bringing back Strange Academy, the Doctor Strange spin-off that was previously put on hold. The show will focus on the students at Kamar-Taj, and many believe Wong will play a key role as a teacher or principal, guiding a new group of sorcerers.

The series Ironheart recently introduced Zelma Stanton, a new character who is a young sorceress trained at Kamar-Taj and now owns a magic shop. Regan Aliyah, the actress playing Stanton, has suggested that Strange Academy has the potential to become the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Harry Potter.

According to reports, Marvel Studios is beginning to develop a third Doctor Strange movie. It’s expected to be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, suggesting that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character will make it through that massive story.

Wiccan

As a huge MCU fan, I’m really excited about Billy Maximoff, aka Wiccan! He’s Scarlet Witch’s son and is shaping up to be a seriously powerful magical character. We first met him in WandaVision as something Wanda created within her reality-bending Hex, but Agatha All Along revealed he’s actually a reincarnation, and now Joe Locke, who you might know from Heartstopper, is playing him as a teenager. It’s a great casting choice and I can’t wait to see what they do with the character!

The new show connected to WandaVision revealed that Wiccan possesses powers nearly as strong as Scarlet Witch, even allowing him to create a complete alternate reality based on witches’ lore. The story will continue with Wiccan teaming up with Agatha Harkness (who is now a ghost) to find his missing brother, Tommy—also known as Speed—in the upcoming VisionQuest series.

For the time being, Wiccan appears to be linked to the ghostly Agatha, who may become his magical teacher. Recent hints suggest Wiccan will reappear in Avengers: Doomsday, and many believe he’s destined to join the Young Avengers or Champions team after that.

Nico Minoru

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is also planning to explore magic with Nico Minoru, a character from the Runaways and the daughter of dark wizards. While she previously appeared in the Runaways TV series, that show’s place in the official MCU timeline, like Agents of SHIELD, is still unclear.

Lyrica Okano played Minoru in the Hulu show, but Marvel might choose a different actress when the character appears in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. As of now, she’s the only member of the Runaways team expected to return anytime soon.

Marvel Animation recently added the character Minoru as Peter Parker’s best friend in the show Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and it looks like they’ll be showing off her magical powers in the next season. This has led to speculation about whether the Runaways character might appear in a future Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
