Marvel Snap Ban Was A “Surprise” To Devs, Provided Updates On Game’s Status & Revealed Compensation Plans

Over the past weekend, Second Dinner’s card battler game, Marvel Snap, found itself unexpectedly prohibited within the U.S., leaving many American players and content producers taken aback. The ban was issued due to TikTok, a video-sharing platform owned by ByteDance – also the proprietor of Nuverse, Marvel Snap’s publisher.

As a dedicated fan, I’m working tirelessly to bring back the game services on app stores in the U.S., and I wanted to personally update all of you on this progress. It’s crucial to mention that only Snappers based in the US are experiencing any disruptions at this time. For those of you outside the US, keep snapping away – there are no issues for you!

The popular card battler game Marvel Snap, one of a few intellectual properties owned independently, was temporarily unavailable in U.S. app stores following TikTok’s ban within the country. Developers at Second Dinner shared that this unexpected turn of events took them by surprise. They clarified on their Discord server that the game’s absence wasn’t premeditated, stating, “‘This outage came as a surprise to us and was not part of our plans.’” As a result, they emphasized that the game isn’t going anywhere and are actively working to restore it quickly, with updates to follow.

Unfortunately, it appears that the Marvel Snap game is currently inaccessible in U.S. app stores and cannot be played within the United States at this time. This unexpected downtime was not anticipated. Rest assured, Marvel Snap is here to stay!

We are diligently working to bring the game back online as soon as possible and will keep you updated on its return.

Earlier, it was unclear if TikTok’s ban wouldn’t affect Marvel Snap; but within a day of being banned, TikTok was reinstated. It seems very likely that Marvel Snap will be available on app stores once again soon, and we eagerly await any updates from the developer in the coming hours.

After that point, the developer has been consistently sharing updates on their Discord server and Twitter feed, with the game still being inaccessible in the US at this moment. Initially, the developer intends to reimburse all players for the time they have lost due to the unavailability of the game, as it has prevented them from completing daily missions, Season Pass tasks, and Bonus Challenges, as well as collecting their free credits and other rewards.

Earlier, I mentioned that we’re still uncertain about when Marvel Snap’s online services will resume, with compensation expected once the game is operational again. In the meantime, the developer has suggested that those affected by this downtime should check out Marvel Snap content creators and streamers on platforms like Twitch and YouTube for ongoing Snap-related content. Of course, it’s also important to support these creators and the Snap community during this time.

While Second Dinner is busy fixing up the game for its U.S. release, we’ll keep you informed with fresh updates and news as soon as they become available. Until then, feel free to connect with Marvel Snap content makers on Twitch and YouTube, and stay involved within the SNAP community. Keep an eye out, as a new card release is scheduled for January 21st, 2025, following the usual weekly reset.
