A recent rumor suggests what we might see in Black Panther 3. While Marvel hasn’t officially said anything, reports indicate the movie will continue the story from the previous films and explore Wakanda further, potentially bringing back known characters and introducing new ones.
Black Panther 3 will likely continue with Letitia Wright as lead
On X (formerly Twitter), user MyTimeToShineHello predicted that despite the introduction of new Black Panther characters, actress Letitia Wright will continue to be seen as the primary Black Panther for a long time, referencing her character Shuri taking on the role in the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
While a third Black Panther movie is being discussed, Marvel hasn’t officially announced it yet. Director Ryan Coogler mentioned to Variety that a third film is in development, but there’s no confirmed schedule for when it will be made.
Letitia Wright, during a June 2024 appearance on The View, expressed her enthusiasm for continuing to play the character Shuri, calling her a favorite. When asked about a potential Black Panther 3, she hinted that more developments were on the way. Shuri took on the role of protecting Wakanda after the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who played her brother T’Challa, in 2020.
Rumors about Black Panther 3 have been fueled by photos of actor Damson Idris with Angela Bassett at a recent Vogue event. Fans have speculated that Idris might be cast as the new T’Challa or Prince Toussaint, a character introduced in Wakanda Forever. A popular online caption identifying him as T’Challa gained over 1.5 million views, adding to the excitement.
During a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, the host asked Idris Elba if he’d discussed potentially playing the next Black Panther. He gave a playful “yes and no” answer, but confirmed he would definitely take the role if it were offered to him.
Director Ryan Coogler has expressed his hope that Wakanda will continue to be featured in Marvel movies for many years to come, even after he and others involved in the current films are no longer working on them (according to The New York Times). This suggests Marvel intends to tell more stories about Wakanda and its future.
