Marvel Rivals win rates reveal shocking picks for the game’s worst heroes

Prior to the debut of Season 1, the developers unveiled the win rates for each character in Marvel Rivals. While it’s no surprise that popular characters like Hela and Mantis top the list, the identities of the game’s least effective heroes are quite unexpected.

It appears that the developers have predominantly provided buffs over nerfs in the Season 1 balance update, indicating their intention to let the game settle and allow players to discover which strategies or characters are truly effective.

As a devoted fan, I’ve got to say, the recent buff to Wolverine in this update has sparked some heated debates, but back then, it might not have caused such a stir. The TeamCaptain rework definitely shifted our view of the hero, and the game meta is now changing at an incredible pace.

Contrary to expectation, some of the game’s least capable characters are surprisingly its most adored.

Marvel Rivals players are losing with top-tier heroes

Among the 33 characters you can play during Season 1, the six with the lowest win rates are particularly intriguing. It’s important to note that these statistics are derived from competitive games rather than casual matches.

Here are the 6 worst heroes in Marvel Rivals:

HeroPick RateWin Rate
Cloak & Dagger20.58%46.68%
The Punisher8.68%46.48%
Moon Knight9.53%46.35%
Squirrel Girl2.93%44.78%
Jeff the Land Shark13.86%44.38%
Black Widow1.21%41.07%

From a gamer’s perspective, it’s no shock that Black Widow is ranked at the bottom with an approximate win rate of around 40%. Given her inability to one-shot headshot like Hawkeye, it’s hard to justify picking her over him. As for buffs, there’s currently no plan for that, which might actually be a smart move considering how powerful Widowmaker is expected to be in Overwatch 2.

Even though Jeff consistently picks items quickly, he ranks second due to issues primarily with his ultimate ability, which is his most significant strength. Unfortunately, this ultimate move leaves him incapable of healing his teammates, making him more of a liability than an asset in some situations. It’s crucial for a healer to be effective at their job, and Jeff falling short in this regard can be detrimental rather than beneficial.

In the upcoming season, Squirrel Girl is receiving power boosts, which suggests she may climb up the ranks soon. Meanwhile, Moon Knight, The Punisher, and Cloak & Dagger are highly esteemed characters in our rankings.

Moon Knight shows great promise, yet his frequent defeats might stem from the fact that mastering his movement abilities requires a significant level of skill, and his damage can often be healed easily. However, he becomes truly effective when used in conjunction with his team’s follow-up attacks.

Regarding The Punisher, he’s a character that new players often find appealing as he’s user-friendly when it comes to dealing damage (DPS). It’s not unusual for his victory rate to be on the lower side. On the other hand, Cloak & Dagger stands out as the most unexpected hero among them all.

The pair’s selection rate is only 20%, which puts them among the lowest win-rate champions in the game, yet they are almost universally considered top-tier. However, mastering these champions requires skill and finesse: timing Cloak’s i-frames, positioning your ultimate effectively, and using walls strategically at crucial moments. The challenge lies less in their effectiveness as heroes and more in learning how to play them proficiently.

Regardless of the situation, C&D will receive an enhancement, receiving an additional dash on their ultimate in the Season 1 update to provide a little boost. As a result, it is anticipated that they, together with Squirrel Girl, will climb up the rankings following the update.
