In an exciting announcement, NetEase Games has revealed that Marvel Rivals’ first season, titled “Eternal Night Falls,” will launch on January 10th, 2025, bringing the introduction of Marvel’s original family, the Fantastic Four, as new playable characters. Players can expect this update to roll out simultaneously across consoles and PCs, featuring a fully-loaded Battle Pass, fresh maps, stylish cosmetics, and other exciting additions.

In a new video on the Marvel Rivals YouTube channel, the game’s creative director Guangguang showcased the third Developer Vision update, highlighting fresh content and balance adjustments coming in the next season. Moreover, they promised to tackle immediate concerns players have faced since its release in December 2024 and swiftly resolve these issues while further improving the game.

Previously discussed, the upcoming season for our team-based PVP shooter is titled Eternal Night Falls. This season continues the narrative initiated in Season 0: Dooms Rise, where an ominous “Darkness” sweeps over New York City. The Fantastic Four are introduced as playable characters, earnable at no cost once they join the fray to rescue the city from Dracula’s grip. He intends to spread fear with his formidable army of vampiric minions.

In the progression of Eternal Night Falls, Dracula seizes authority over the Modern-day New York, leveraging Chronovium’s power and disseminating the Darkhold’s pages in the process. To counteract Dracula and thwart his impending dark catastrophe, the combination of “science and magic” is needed, which eventually leads to the Fantastic Four joining forces with our Heroes.

In this upcoming season, which spans three months, it’s divided into two equal parts of approximately six to seven weeks each. Guangguang affirmed this structure, ensuring there’s ample time for players to accomplish missions and acquire Battle Pass rewards. Consequently, Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic and Sue Storm/Invisible Woman will debut in the initial phase of Season 1. In contrast, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing are slated for release during the second half of the season.

The arrival signals the introduction of three novel playable maps tied to a fresh storyline and theme called “Empire of Eternal Night.” In this ominous setting, Central Park, Midtown, and Sanctum Santorum locations have been swallowed by darkness. Initially, Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown (a Convoy map), along with the new game mode, Doom Match: Sanctum Santorum will be accessible in the initial phase. Further information about the other maps and game modes will be disclosed as we approach the second half’s launch.

Regarding the Battle Pass for this season, there’s going to be a comprehensive pass filled with twice as much content compared to previous seasons. There will be ten fresh cosmetics up for grabs, such as outfits for Loki, the Scarlet Witch, and Wolverine. The Luxury Pass is priced at 990 Lattice, but completing it will reward you with 600 Lattice and 600 Units. The developers have implemented a special mechanism for the Battle Pass and Chrono Tokens that ensures the Luxury Pass doesn’t expire and any Tokens purchased with Lattice will be kept under certain conditions.

Prepare yourself for the arrival of Marvel’s original crew, the Fantastic Four, in Marvel Rivals! The trailer will be unveiled on January 6th at 8:00 AM Pacific Standard Time (PST) or 16:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Don’t miss it! #MarvelRivals#FantasticFour#NewYorkCity

During the launch of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls, Marvel Rivals’ Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong emphasized some significant hero balance adjustments in the initial part of the season. Notably, heroes like Hela and Hawkeye will experience a decrease in power (nerfs), while Captain America, Venom, Storm, and Wolverine will receive enhancements to their combat abilities (buffs). This should provide these characters with new chances to excel in particular team configurations.

The duo Cloak & Dagger is going to undergo some enhancements to maximize their capabilities, making them even more beneficial within their specific team setups. The adjustments to Jeff the Baby Land Shark’s Ultimate skill will involve fine-tuning for a smoother performance, and further details regarding these balance changes can be found in the patch notes.

In the upcoming Marvel Rivals season, the Hero Pick and Win rates will mirror those from Season 0. This means that in Quickplay mode, all PC and console stats will be combined, while Competitive mode will separate the stats based on rank for both PC and console versions. It’s important to note that with the arrival of Marvel Rivals Season 1, there will also be new Ranked Adjustments. The competitive ranks from Season 0 will determine the starting positions in Season 1, and players may find themselves demoted by as many as seven divisions. For instance, a Platinum 1 player could drop down to Silver 1 at the start of Season 1.

This opens up an opportunity for a fresh Competitive tier called Celestial, which follows Grandmaster in the ranking system and consists of three new divisions. These additional segments aim to “create a smooth gameplay experience” for our top-tier players. Furthermore, we’re adding several enhancements and tweaks to the game, such as a graphics setting for higher frame rates for competitive players, mouse support to refine acceleration settings, and a Streamer Mode tailored for Marvel Rivals streamers and content creators to utilize.
