Marvel Rivals Debuts Birnin T'Challa Map & New Black Panther Skin

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the latest announcement for Marvel Rivals has me buzzing like never before! The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda and the Birnin T’Challa map are not just another addition to the game, but a testament to the richness and depth that Afro-Futurism can bring to the gaming world.

In the latest IGN showcase, it was revealed that T’Challa, the ruler of Wakanda and the current Black Panther, was showcased, announcing a new location within Marvel Rivals. This new playable map is called Birnin T’Challa and consists of three distinct areas for teams to fight over. As the Black Panther guides the tour, there was an unexpected surprise in store.

In their latest moves, NetEase Games opted for Black Panther, also known as King T’Challa, as the star character in both their Rivals Assemble promotional video and daily announcement. Just as anticipated, he was the central figure in these updates. Similar to previous announcements, the Black Panther will receive a new cosmetic for players to acquire at launch. This skin, much like his role, was bestowed upon him by the deity Bast, emphasizing the character’s “ancestral power.

In the IGN First showcase, players were given an exclusive sneak peek at the Wakanda Intergalactic Empire’s locales and the Birnin T’Challa map. From the footage shown, it appears that the map is divided into three unique areas: the Imperial Institute of Science, the Stellar Spaceport, and Warrior Falls. Each area showcases remarkable attention to detail in its design.

Looking out from Warrior Falls to Bast’s plush toy in Shuri’s room, everything mirrors the powerful influences of Afro-Futurism running through the entire map. It’s uncertain if the map will be accessible upon its debut, but a fresh cosmetic for Black Panther debuting with the game has been carefully selected by the Wakandan deity Bast herself.

On December 6th, 2024, the Bast’s Chosen Black Panther skin will be released, inspired by its comic book appearance in Marvel Legacy (2017) #1. We’re not quite sure yet how players can get this skin, but we’ll provide updates on this page and many others as we approach the launch for both console and PC versions.
