Rumors are swirling that Brie Larson will reprise her role as Captain Marvel in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday. This speculation comes after a recent post on social media. Larson last played Captain Marvel in 2023’s The Marvels, alongside Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris).
The ending of The Marvels hinted at a future Avengers storyline, showing Monica Rambeau in a reality where her mother became Captain Marvel and teamed up with the X-Men, including Beast (played by Kelsey Grammer). However, it’s still unclear what role these characters – including Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel – will play in upcoming movies.
When Marvel announced the cast for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Brie Larson wasn’t included. In fact, the only actor from The Marvels confirmed to appear in the new Avengers film was Bill Grammer. He’ll be joined by established Marvel Cinematic Universe stars like Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie, as well as original X-Men actors such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Fans are wondering why Beast is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday while characters like Monica Rambeau and Captain Marvel aren’t. Following a recent social media post by Brie Larson, many believe Marvel Studios is intentionally keeping some of the Avengers: Doomsday cast a secret.
Why Marvel Fans Think Brie Larson Is In Avengers: Doomsday
This week, Brie Larson posted a photo of herself voting, playfully telling fans to ignore her wig. While wearing a hooded sweatshirt, only a bit of her hair was visible – and it appeared much longer than the short hairstyle she’s had recently.
Fans think Brie Larson was wearing a long wig to disguise her appearance as Captain Marvel. The last time we saw her character, Carol Danvers, in a Marvel movie, she had longer hair. Plus, Larson hinted at something being secret with a shushing emoji in her post, and Marvel is known for keeping things under wraps, leading many to believe it’s a hint about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Will Brie Larson Really Be In Avengers: Doomsday?
There’s a big issue with the idea that Larson accidentally revealed a possible return in Avengers: Doomsday. It’s highly improbable she’s currently filming, as principal photography finished months ago, and it’s too early for any reshoots. Reshoots will definitely happen, but the filmmakers need time to review all the existing footage first to determine what additional scenes are necessary.
It’s unlikely any reshoots will happen in Los Angeles, where Brie Larson lives and votes. Marvel usually films these kinds of scenes in London or Atlanta. Because of this, it seems improbable she’d be filming additional scenes for Doomsday on the same day she was voting in LA.
Despite everything, Captain Marvel could still show up in Avengers: Doomsday. With Beast and the X-Men already confirmed to return, it would logically follow that Monica Rambeau and Captain Marvel would also be included. However, this depends on whether Marvel decides to ignore the events of The Marvels and move forward without it.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m still wondering if Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will show up in Avengers: Doomsday. When the cast was first announced, Marvel said they’d add more names later, but we haven’t heard anything yet. Maybe they’ll confirm Larson’s involvement soon – she might have already filmed her scenes, or they could include her in any reshoots they do.
Even though fans are hoping to see Captain Marvel in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie next year, we should wait for Marvel to officially confirm her appearance.
