Dotemu and Tribute Games have announced that their new beat ‘em up, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, will be released on December 1st. A demo is currently available on Steam for those who want to try it out after its appearance at Steam Next Fest. I previously played an early version at Summer Game Fest and thought it was a fantastic, ideal Marvel game for playing with friends on the couch. The latest trailer showed off the final two of the game’s 15 playable Marvel heroes.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion reveals final two characters and a release date
Even if the impressive graphics and Marvel universe aren’t enough to get you interested in this game, the developers should be. Marvel Cosmic Invasion is being created by Tribute Games, who also made popular titles like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and the soon-to-be-released Scott Pilgrim EX (announced at Summer Game Fest). The game is being published by Dotemu, who recently helped develop the successful indie beat ‘em up Absolum, and have announced future updates for that game as well.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion features a fighting system inspired by the upcoming Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Instead of controlling a single character, players select a team of two. You can switch between these characters whenever you like, and even have them team up for special combo attacks. They can briefly appear to assist with a single hit or seamlessly swap into the fight with an attack, helping you maintain the offensive.
The character list for Marvel Cosmic Invasion includes popular heroes like Captain America and Wolverine, alongside some surprising choices such as Beta Ray Bill and Cosmic Ghost Rider. This mix offers something for everyone – familiar faces for fans of the Marvel movies, and deeper cuts from the comics for longtime Marvel readers. The trailer also revealed the last two playable characters: Phoenix (Jean Grey) and Iron Man, in his Invincible Iron Man form, alongside the game’s release date.
