Iko Uwais, the incredibly talented action star famous for the films The Raid and The Raid 2, is taking on a new role: filmmaker. He’s started his own production company, Uwais Pictures, and his first project is an action-packed war movie called Timur. A new trailer for the film has just been released.
Uwais will direct and star in Timur, a film inspired by the 1996 hostage crisis in Mapenduma and the subsequent rescue operation led by current Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The film will feature Uwais alongside action stars Andri Mashadi (The Shadow Strays), Yusuf Mahardika (Borderless Fog), and Yasamin Jasem (Temurun), as well as Prabowo Subianto himself, who participated in the actual Operation Mapenduma. You can watch the exciting trailer and read the official synopsis for Timur below.
TIMUR is a thrilling action film about a rescue mission gone wrong, plunging soldiers into a brutal fight for survival. The movie, directed by and starring Iko Uwais, explores the realities of war – the sense of duty, the pain of loss, and the sacrifices made – all set against a backdrop of intense combat. It’s a story of courage and the desperate fight to make it home.
‘Timur’ Will Deliver Expert “Fight Choreography, Action Design, and Stunt Performance”
Early footage from the film Timur shows that Uwais Pictures has created action sequences – including fight choreography, stunts, and overall action design – that are comparable to those in films like The Raid and The Night Comes for Us. This seems to be a hallmark of the new production studio. Timur also aims to tell a powerful, true story about war, focusing on themes of bravery, love of country, and self-sacrifice, rather than the political complexities of the conflict. Audiences will be able to judge for themselves how well Uwais has achieved this when Timur is released in theaters on December 18, 2025.
Iko Uwais, known for his roles in action films, has a new project in the works alongside his other ventures. He’s joined the cast of MRI, a throwback action thriller directed by Liam O’Donnell (known for Skyline). Filming is scheduled to start in Jakarta next year. The movie features a classic action storyline: Uwais plays a damaged hitman – struggling with family issues and a knee injury – who finds himself the only hope when ruthless gangsters seize the hospital he’s in for a routine MRI. He must then rescue the daughter of a powerful crime boss and save the day, despite being in considerable pain.
Sylvester Stallone, known for The Expendables, is returning to sci-fi with Skyline: Warpath, and he’ll be joined by Scott Adkins, the star of John Wick. Plus, Iko Uwais will be acting alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Amazon’s Road House 2, an upcoming sequel packed with action.
