Martha Stewart Says She Was Asked to Host ‘SNL’ After Prison but Parole Officer Wouldn’t Let Her: ‘I’m So Pissed. Maybe Some Day’

Martha Stewart shared that she was invited to be the host for “Saturday Night Live,” but unfortunately, her probation officer declined the request.

On “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday, Stewart shared that she received a call from Lorne Michaels shortly following her release from prison in 2005. This prison sentence came as a result of her conviction for fraud linked to the ImClone stock trading case, which she served for five months at the Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, West Virginia.

Stewart shared that he had been asked to host the famous sketch show while leaving Alderson, the camp where he had spent some time, and his parole officer refused to grant him the necessary time for it. He expressed frustration with this person, saying, “That scoundrel! I still have his name and phone number.

Stewart found it challenging that on parole, she could leave her home for just eight hours daily, a restriction conflicting with “SNL’s” demanding work routine. Expressing her frustration, she stated, “I’m really angry… perhaps someday.

When Fallon expressed her confidence that she’d make a fantastic host, Stewart responded enthusiastically: “I could certainly excel in the role! Let’s start a promotional movement for it!

In an intriguing conversation earlier, Fallon highlighted that I, among many others, have been frequently mimicked on Saturday Night Live (SNL) throughout its storied history. Remarkably, no less than nine talented artists, including Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, David Spade, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and the exceptionally gifted Chloe Fineman, have taken on the challenge of emulating me on this iconic stage.

Having mentioned Spade being her preferred choice, Stewart expressed her delight in observing portrayals of herself on the program. She commented, “Imitation is the greatest form of compliment,” she said. “So go ahead and imitate!
