As a movie enthusiast who has had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of Hollywood’s landscape over the years, Martha Luttrell‘s passing is a poignant reminder of the giants whose footsteps have paved the way for countless aspiring talents in the industry.
Martha Luttrell, an agent renowned for managing a diverse group of directors, actors, authors, and musicians, passed away on December 9th in Calabasas, California. She was eighty years old.
It was confirmed to EbMaster that Luttrell had passed away due to pancreatic cancer, as shared by her friend Holly Goldberg Sloan.
In a past role, Luttrell played a part in shaping the professional journeys of various directors such as Martin Campbell, Paul Weiland, Mick Jackson, Tony Bill, and Jon Amiel. Additionally, he contributed to the careers of actors like Stephen Rea, Julie Taymor, Dereck Joubert, Beverly Joubert, Susan Sarandon, Judy Davis, Sam Shepard, Waylon Jennings, and Don Was.
In the 1970s, Luttrell started her career by handling phone calls at Capitol Records. Later, she moved to New York City and worked alongside Mike Nichols. Following their collaboration on the film “The Day of the Dolphin,” she shifted to Los Angeles and began assisting Bill Robinson at The Robinson Agency, where she picked up the skills needed to become an agent.
Eventually, Robinson brought her on as a partner at her own agency. In the year 1983, Robinson-Luttrell & Associates were acquired by ICM, where she spent 25 years working.
Jeff Berg noted that when Martha started her career, there weren’t many women in leadership roles within talent agencies. However, Martha significantly expanded opportunities for women, leaving behind an impressive and meaningful legacy in this field.
Luttrell was not only associated with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, but he also held the position of Chairperson for a term within the Academy’s Agent Group.
Peter Luttrell, her nephew, along with his wife Dr. Stephanie White, are left behind. Contributions in her memory can be sent to the Aspen Community Foundation.
