Popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, known as MKBHD, has criticized Apple’s Vision Pro headset, noting that many of the people who purchased the $3,500 device aren’t using it much anymore, even two years after it came out.
In his video, ‘What’s Going on with Apple Vision Pro?’, tech reviewer Marques Brownlee examined the updated Vision Pro. While the new version features Apple’s M5 chip, it’s largely the same as the 2023 model. Brownlee explained that the 2025 version is “pretty much identical” to the original, with the only noticeable difference being a new strap design.
He explained that the new version weighs more because it includes a new Dual Knit Band as standard. It seems Apple prioritized comfort improvements over performance upgrades this time around.
While the new band “is significantly more comfortable,” Brownlee said, “it’s not a game changer.”
He characterized the new M5 chip upgrade as a modest improvement, noting it speeds up app loading and boosts efficiency without altering the user experience. He explained it wasn’t a revolutionary change, as the Vision Pro’s displays, cameras, and core functionality remain largely unchanged.
Apple’s headset isn’t living up to expectations
Following a review of the latest version, tech expert Brownlee believes Apple’s high-priced headset hasn’t met expectations. He noted that after two years, most people are primarily using the Vision Pro to watch movies or it’s simply sitting unused, which he finds disappointing given its potential.
Marques Brownlee noted that Apple’s Vision Pro isn’t taking off as quickly as other smart glasses, like Meta’s Ray-Ban line, which are more popular because they’re easier to use and don’t draw as much attention. He believes Apple now understands the Vision Pro won’t be a massive success and is focusing more effort on creating its own, more mainstream smart glasses.
According to reports from early October, Apple has decided to move away from developing a more affordable, lightweight version of the Vision Pro – often referred to as the “Vision Pro Air” – and is now focusing on a different approach.
