Markiplier’s Iron Lung finally gets theatrical release date

Markiplier’s first movie as a director, a sci-fi horror film called Iron Lung, will be released in theaters in late January 2026. He was heavily involved in the project, not only directing it, but also writing, editing, financing, and starring in it, after over two years of work.

The movie is adapted from the 2022 independent horror game created by David Szymanski. Markiplier announced the film in 2023, after finishing filming, and has since worked hard to complete the editing and get it released in theaters.

Markiplier is releasing his film, Iron Lung, himself and partnering with independent cinemas nationwide, Variety reports. He’s planning screenings in 50 to 100 theaters during its opening weekend, January 30th to February 1st.

The details for when and where to stream the project are still being worked out. The show stars Markiplier, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock.

What Iron Lung is about

The YouTuber described the movie’s premise: all stars and planets vanished, leaving only those on spaceships and space stations to witness what they called ‘The Quiet Rapture’.

For years, the once-powerful Consolidation of Iron had been falling apart, its buildings and systems deteriorating. But recently, they found something incredible on a desolate moon called AT-5: a vast ocean of blood. Desperate for resources, they quickly organized an expedition. They built a submarine and, in a grim move, sealed a prisoner inside to pilot it.

The immense pressure at these ocean depths has forced them to cover the front window with metal. The crew hopes this mission will secure their release, but if it fails, another team will be sent. This is the thirteenth time someone has attempted this dangerous expedition.

Markiplier talked about how ambitious and dedicated the project was, highlighting the huge amount of effort put into making it. He also mentioned reports that the film might have broken the world record for the most fake blood used in a movie.

In addition to his role in Iron Lung, he recently appeared in the New Regency film, The Edge of Sleep, and can be seen in the Emmy-nominated YouTube Originals series, In Space with Markiplier.
