YouTube creator Markiplier became emotional and tearful when his first film, Iron Lung, was chosen for release in major movie theaters across the United States, prompting him to reflect on all the hard work that went into making it.
Iron Lung is a long-time passion project for its creator, Mark. The film is inspired by the popular 2022 indie horror game of the same name. It tells the story of a prisoner who must navigate a sea of blood on a lonely moon. This takes place after a mysterious event called ‘The Quiet Rapture’ causes all the stars and habitable planets to vanish.
He collaborated with the game’s creator, David Syzmanski, to make his idea a reality. The project was mostly paid for by the YouTuber himself, who also wrote, directed, and starred as the main character – a prisoner facing a grim fate – in the film.
At first, Mark seemed optimistic about the movie’s progress, but he admitted he was having trouble finding a distributor to show it in theaters. This became a significant disagreement with the film’s creator, who insisted on a proper release for his work and wouldn’t compromise.
After a long wait, Mark’s movie finally premiered in theaters in December 2025. It didn’t start in large cinema chains, but independent theaters across the U.S. began showing it, and audiences clearly wanted to see it.
Just a few days after that, major movie theater chains – including AMC, Cinemark, and Regal – announced they would be showing Mark’s independent film, Iron Lung. It’s a big success for the project! The two-hour movie will be released on January 30, 2026, with a few theaters offering early showings a few days before.
If they succeed, they’ll be freed. If not, someone else will take their place. This is the thirteenth attempt. IRON LUNG, from Mark Fischbach, arrives in AMC Theatres on January 30th. Buy your tickets now!

Markiplier in tears as Iron Lung picked up by major theater chains
On December 11th, Mark shared a video on YouTube reflecting on his win. He became emotional as he thought about his journey and expressed his gratitude for the support of his fans.
He confessed it had been incredibly difficult managing everything for so long, and that he hadn’t anticipated this situation. He explained that after working on a project for three years, relying on his reputation and promises, it’s easy to lose perspective, and he deeply appreciated the trust people had placed in him.
He chuckled, saying, “These are happy tears! I’ve poured a lot of myself into this, and it feels great. It’s made me really happy and I’m excited to keep creating.” He added that he was truly grateful.
And there’s more! The YouTuber also shared that he’s currently discussing international distribution for the film, which is a huge accomplishment for a project he poured his heart and soul – and even his own blood, sweat, and tears – into.
With his game, Iron Lung, now released, Mark announced he’s going back to creating content for YouTube, which has left fans both happy and eager to see what he does next.
