Marines save Christmas after being called in to rescue escaped reindeer

A major search was launched in northwest England after one of Santa’s reindeer escaped from a Christmas celebration. Police, the Coastguard, and Royal Marines all joined forces to find and bring the reindeer back safely.

The Southport Offshore Rescue Trust responded to a call on November 29th about a reindeer that had escaped from a Christmas event in Formby. The reindeer had been missing for hours and was last spotted moving towards the coast, raising concerns it might end up in the River Mersey.

At first, police were following the reindeer, but they lost sight of them as it got dark. Because they couldn’t see well, Merseyside Police asked for help from the Coastguard teams in Southport and Crosby, as well as rescue teams with special binoculars that can see in the dark.

The Southport Offshore Rescue Trust team used thermal binoculars to find a reindeer on the beach. It was hard to catch, but they managed to guide it to the sand dunes at Altcar Rifle Range, where the police kept an eye on it with a drone.

Okay, so this is a weird one. Apparently, a reindeer went on the lam and ended up in the middle of some sand dunes! Thankfully, a vet, with a little help from the Royal Marines, was finally able to catch the little guy and keep him safe. It was a pretty wild rescue, honestly.

After a long search along the beaches, sand dunes, and coastal trails, the lost person was found safe and sound. With Santa’s team complete again, Christmas was back on track!

The reindeer has since been returned to its handlers, bringing the holiday chaos to a close.
