As a seasoned movie critic who’s seen more Christmas specials than Santa Claus has reindeer, I must say Mariah Carey’s performance at the NFL Christmas Gameday was nothing short of magical. With her voice as smooth as eggnog and as warm as a crackling fireplace, she transported us all to a winter wonderland.
She’s now thawed and prepared to perform. This upcoming season will feature the first-ever NFL Christmas Day game streamed on Netflix, and none other than the undisputed “Queen of Christmas,” Mariah Carey, was there to initiate the games with a pre-recorded rendition of her hit song “All I Want for Christmas Is You.
Watch her performance here.
Carey’s performance was broadcast before the Kansas City Chiefs versus Pittsburgh Steelers game at 1 p.m. Eastern Time, and the Baltimore Ravens versus Houston Texans at 4:3.00 p.m. Eastern Time. Notably, Carey was the only popular music artist performing on Netflix that day, as previously announced, Beyoncé performed during the halftime show of the Ravens-Texans game in her hometown of Houston.
As a diehard cinephile of football, I couldn’t help but feel the excitement brewing as I watched the Kansas City Chiefs, under the brilliant leadership of Patrick Mahomes, stride confidently towards their Christmas Day showdown with an impressive 14-1 record. Meanwhile, the Steelers were holding a respectable 10-4, but it was clear that the Chiefs’ dominance was in a league of its own.
On December 9th, Mariah Carey’s timeless Christmas song “All I Want For Christmas is You” spent its 15th consecutive week at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and regained the top position on Billboard’s Holiday 100 chart. This achievement follows her “Christmas Time” tour, which concluded with a snowy performance in Brooklyn earlier this week. In the aftermath of her tour, Mariah Carey will be performing at NFL Christmas Gameday.
