As a devoted admirer of the enchanting world of cinema, I find myself utterly captivated by Emerald Fennell’s illustrious journey through the realm of filmmaking. Her latest masterpiece, the long-awaited adaptation of Emily Brontë’s timeless classic “Wuthering Heights,” is a testament to her unyielding passion for the gothic genre and its mesmerizing blend of horror, comedy, sex, death, and desire.
Emerald Fennell’s modern take on the timeless gothic love story “Wuthering Heights” is set to hit cinemas this coming Valentine’s Day in 2026, as announced by Warner Bros.
Fennell assumes multiple roles – writer, director, and producer – for a film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel. The star-studded cast includes Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif. MRC and Robbie’s LuckyChap are also involved in the production of this project.
Wuthering Heights” is the second joint project by MRC, LuckyChap, and Fennell following their successful venture “Saltburn,” and it’s also the third time they’ve teamed up with LuckyChap and Fennell, having previously worked together on “Promising Young Woman.

The project sparked a bidding war, with Netflix offering a staggering $150 million for the film. However, the “Wuthering Heights” filmmakers accepted Warner Bros.’ $80 million bid, opting for Warners film chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy’s pitch for a wide theatrical release and a full marketing campaign.
Fennell revealed her intention to rework “Wuthering Heights” as her third major project in July, sharing an unexpected update on social media accompanied by a graphic featuring the quote, “Be with me always – Take any form – Drive me mad,” which is taken straight from the book.
In a January 2024 article for the Los Angeles Times, Fennell expressed his lifelong fascination with the gothic. From Edward Gorey’s macabre children who meet untimely ends through peaches, leeches, and rugs, to the perilous heroines of Daphne du Maurier and the unsettling eroticism in Angela Carter’s fairy tales, the gothic realm has always captivated him. This genre is unique for its blending of comedy and horror, disgust and attraction, sex and death, where every interaction bristles with the potential for violence, or intimacy, or both.
