Bungie has detailed the anti-cheat measures for Marathon, making it clear that anyone who violates the rules will be permanently banned. There will be zero tolerance for cheating.
The launch of Marathon is almost here – March 5th, following the Server Slam test starting February 26th. Before everyone jumps in, Bungie has explained how they plan to keep the online game enjoyable and safe for all players.
Dedicated servers should ensure fair gameplay, and customized Fog of War features will restrict what cheaters can see and do, even if they’re using tools like wallhacks.
The developers are taking rule violations very seriously. If you break the rules, your account will be permanently banned – there are no second chances. A single offense will result in a permanent block.
Marathon set to permanently ban anyone caught cheating
Players can report cheating or other suspicious behavior directly within the game or by using a web form. However, that’s only a small part of how Bungie handles these issues, as detailed in a blog post from February 23, 2026.
So, with Marathon, Bungie’s basically watching everything I do in the game – every move, every shot. They’re constantly gathering data and running it through their systems to try and catch anything that seems off or doesn’t look right with my gameplay. It’s like they’re always on the lookout for anything unusual.

If a player unexpectedly obtains multiple copies of a rare item, like a powerful weapon, it will immediately be noticed by the game developers, Bungie. Using cheats to duplicate items will result in permanent account closure.
If we detect any form of cheating, like using aimbots or wallhacks, your account will be permanently banned without notice.
Bungie has announced a zero-tolerance policy on cheating in Marathon. Anyone caught cheating, or creating tools to cheat, will be permanently banned from the game with no appeals allowed.
If your account is banned but you believe the ban is unfair, you can appeal the decision and request to have your profile restored. However, Bungie will consistently and strictly punish anyone caught cheating.
