I just read this unbelievable story out of China, and I’m honestly shocked! A man is getting divorced because he found out his wife spent all of their savings – like, 670,000 yuan which is about $94,000 – on a male streamer! Apparently, she was sending him money and now they’re left with a ton of debt. It’s just…wow. I can’t imagine how heartbroken and angry he must be.
For eight years, Mr. Liu of Zhengzhou lived very modestly, saving almost all of his money to provide financial security for his wife.
As reported by The South China Morning Post, he accumulated 1.16 million yuan (about $163,000) and gave it all to her to hold.
Recently, when he asked to see their account details, his wife wouldn’t let him, which made him suspicious. Eventually, she confessed that the money had been taken.
Man catches life sending over $90,000 to livestreamer
She spent 670,000 yuan of her 1.16 million yuan savings on a livestreamer she was fixated on. She couldn’t account for the remaining money, and to make matters worse, she borrowed an additional 80,000 yuan (about $11,200) from online loan services, leaving her family in debt.
Liu shared that he lived in a very basic apartment for only 300 yuan (about $42 US dollars) each month, sending most of his income back home. His wife has dedicated herself to caring for their child full-time since they got married eight years ago.

He explained to Henan TV that he’d saved all his money to give to his girlfriend, but she gave it to another man. He said he felt betrayed and no longer had feelings for her.
The woman confessed she became fixated on the online streamer. Records of their conversations suggest she asked him to call her ‘baby,’ but she maintains they never met in person.
Having spent all their savings and accumulated 80,000 yuan in debt, Liu is now aiming to reclaim half of their shared assets before proceeding with a divorce.
This isn’t the first extreme case involving viewers sending massive sums to livestreamers.
A man in China recently spent his family’s entire savings – and even stole a large sum of money – to send a popular online streamer around $555,000, all hoping to get a friendly acknowledgement, like being called “brother.”
In South Korea, a man was arrested for murdering a female streamer after admitting to the crime. He had previously donated $70,000 to her, and the case has deeply shaken the online streaming community.
