Man claims he was eating Mars Bar to get driving ticket overturned

Okay, so I just read this wild story online. Apparently, this guy in Ireland tried to get out of a driving ticket by telling the authorities he was busy eating a chocolate bar when it happened! Seriously, a chocolate bar! It’s gotten a lot of people talking, and honestly, it’s pretty hilarious. I’m kinda curious to see if it actually works for him, though I doubt it!

Using a phone while driving is generally illegal and unsafe. In the UK, you could receive a large fine and penalty points on your driver’s license. Many states in the US also impose significant fines for this offense.

Many drivers caught using their phones will try to come up with an excuse to avoid getting in serious trouble.

In Gort, Ireland, a man recently gained attention for his unusual excuse after being caught using his phone. He claimed he was actually holding a Mars Bar, which many are calling the ‘best excuse yet’.

Man gets off driving fine with “best excuse ever”

According to the Connacht Tribune, Daniel Fahy, age 30, was pulled over by police in February 2024 for using his phone while driving. He received a fine, but failed to pay it.

During his court appearance, Fahy’s lawyer explained that he was eating a Mars bar when the incident occurred. They pointed out to the court that he had shown them the wrapper as proof.

Although police officers had spotted the wrapper, they remained skeptical. “I don’t believe it’s that obvious,” Garda John O’Brien stated.

Judge Alec Gabbett said this was the most reasonable excuse he’d ever heard and decided to believe Fahy. As a result, the charge was dropped.

The story has become popular on social media, and many viewers were surprised by the results. One person even commented, “I’m definitely saving my candy wrappers from now on!”
